white smoke & loss of power at 70-75mph
I was recently coming back from yuma az and stopped to get fuel at a phillips 66 station in new mexico. As i pulled onto the freeway an began to accellerate the truck started blowing white smoke and losing power. It would do this for several seconds and then return to running normal. I thought that I must have gotten some fuel with water in it so i stopped and put some fuel dryer in the tank and kept running. Ocassionally when going up a hill at 70-75mph it would do the same thing, blow white smoke lose power (but not enough power to really slow me down) it just felt like it lost a cylinder for a few seconds and then came back to life. I ran through that entire tank of what i thought was bad fuel and filled up again using an additive. It ran good on the 2nd tank of fuel no problems. Filled up the third time again using additive and coming through Mo I thought i was driving a locomotive lots of white smoke. Then it quit again and has'nt smoked since then and has plenty of power. My question is does this simply sound like water in fuel (although the light never came on, but I did drain the bowl after the 1st fill up) or something more serious

That's a pretty good description of a bad fuel filter. Except for getting better on the next tank of fuel. I'd change the filter and see if that fixes it.

I am on my third fuel fill (first Mobil station)and I noticed that the truck is not as snappy as the other day before I filled it up. It is not smoking or anything just not as responsive? It seems to take longer to spool up.

Change the filter already? It only has 1100 miles on it? When you drain the filter do you just open the the vavle and the water poors out?

That's exactly what happened when my injector pump went out 1 yr ago. Started slowly like that. I would also check lp pressure.

I replaced the fuel filter and the problem is gone. With this site who would need a mechanic or service manual. thanks a million
