which turbo to go with???
Ok well i was planning on getting a tranny first but since nothing is wrong with the tranny yet and my turbo is messing up ill buy it first. I dont pull anything heavy with the truck just want it to be fast. After i build the tranny im gonna order a set of 110 or 150hp injectors so a turbo to keep up with those would be nice. Thanks!

62/71/14 from any of the companies that sell them if you want bottem end. 64/71or74/14 if you want mid and top end. Will need to turn up low boost fueling until the injectors get in.

62 or 64 is the size in mm of the of the compressor wheel (cold side/Fresh Air Side) at the inducer boar. smallest part of the wheel were the air comes in. The acutal diamer of the wheel could very by manfactur. The 71 or 74 is the size in mm of the turbine wheel(hot side/Exhaust side) at the exit point to the exhause pipe. again total wheel diamer varies by manufactur. the last number is the cm2 of the volume of the exhaust housing. Bigger the number slightly slower the spool up but better egt number. There is also A/R which I am still trying to figure that one out and T3 vs T4 flanges. I could have some of this wrong so if someone want to jump in and correct me feel free, but this how i have come to unstand it all from lots of reading and talking to some people that deal with them in performance applications.

I don't know all their address but a google search will get you there.
Industial Injection, BD diesel Power, High Tech Turbo, Engineer Diesel, ATS diesel, Schied Diesel, D-Tech Turbo, Haisley Machine. These are some of the bigger names that I know of. They probably would have the best bolt on for application and very knowledge people when i have spoken with any of them. Also you might check yellowpages.com for your area and put in turbo or diesel performance and you might find a local shop that is just as good or better or are dealers for these companies. All of the aforementioned have dealer locators on their web sites if they have dealers.

If I have it written down right, the 4000 is a 63/70.. not sure about exhaust side size.
Not many on here that run ATS turbos for some reason.
I would think a super B special from BD or super phat shaft 62 from Industrial Injectoin would be real good with that size sticks.
Something thats 62/71/14 seems to be the most popular size for those sticks. Especially 150 hp's.

most of ats's turbos are not wastegated thats the reason most people dont use them. Plus they cost a bit more than other companies turbos of the same size but they do come in that pretty purple color

I traded my 62/71 for a 64/71 (BD Super B Special), and am really impressed with it. I'm only running a plate and 140hp injectors, so it cleans up pretty well. Spool up is very impressive for this size turbo.

If you tow go with the larger turbo, you should run lower egt's vs. the 62. I run 110's and a garrett 3782R. Egt's are decent and I can tow heavy, no issues. If you just drive alot empty, smaller S362/71 and the bigger sticks. You'll have egt's. A few guys in our chapter ran S362/71 and mach 4's to mid 550rwhp. I would use meth/H2O, its just easier on the valve seats and keeps the egt's under more control.

Surge more of an issue and a blow-off valve fixes that issue. Thats what damages the turbo
