Which should I buy?

I'm looking at a 96 3500 4X4, auto, xtra cab dually SLT WITH 350k MILES for $8K in pretty decent condition.Or a 2002 2500 xtra cab, longbed 4x4, 100K miles, 6 spd H.O., hand crank windows, manual locks, for $21,500 from Good Diesels dealership so I'll have to pay who knows whatelse charges. Dealer says the truck is mint. I plan on pulling my Scout on a trailer and not much else so I could go either way. Love the price of the 96 but will probably need some maintenance but I also like the idea of a hassle free newer truck with 6spd and more powerful motor. The price difference is huge. Is the $21,500 worth it? Thanks

That's a tough call. The 02 just seems a little high to me with 100K on it and the 96 is probably going to need attention depending on PO's maintenance habit's. I have owned a 99, 03 and a 95, my dad has a 93. I personally have been more pleased with my 95 than any of the others although my dad's 93 is an excellent truck.

For the price difference I would choose the 96 because of the P7100 pump over the VP44. You will get better mileage with the 96 if gearing is same. Take the cost differential and use it to do the required things on the older truck. At 350K miles, if it was taken decent care of, you have a good bit of mileage left in the motor.
