which INTERCOOLER??? should i buy

i have been doing some looking around, i think i am going to purchase the banks techni cooler

i like the idea of a kit, all the parts are there just bolt them up my kind of install ...

if banks is the wrong direction please face me forward

also i dont thnik i will ever make SERIOUS hp and boost, low 400's will probably be all this truck might ever see. probably never have twins either. my current high boost number right now is 38psi.

will the extra intercooler volume give me turbo lag?? and are there any real world numbers out there of perf. gain??

thanx a bnuch, this website is a life saver

I would buy the HTT IC or spearco IC over banks product any day, banks always trys to dazzle with *** **** & always over states the actual performance gains banks is better then stock OEM IC.

there are far better choices out there for after market ICs then banks IMO

take a look at the new High Tech IC it looks just like the spearco IC

I have the spearco IC & it works very well but a big pain in the **** to install

the new HTT IC looks the same and I hear that the install is cake

The new HTT. But here is the real question. Why are you wanting to spend all that money to buy an intercooler? You do not need one.

i am semi new to diesels, and one could say that i am "gullable" . its been my understanding that i bought the edge, now i need some cooler more dense are to reap the benefits of the edge. and then after that it would be fuel system upgrades.

i just thought the IC was the next step in the equation to make my truck happy.

You do not need to buy an intercooler. You can see my power numbers and I don't have one. I'm doing compound turbos shortly and still won't be buying an intercooler. Spend your money on a good lift pump and the HOT unlock for your Juice. Next step after that would be a turbo.

I'd get the Spearco unit myself.

Omaha, beware that you aren't thinking everything is a nail just because you have a hammer-- so to speak.

You don't have to have a hugely hotrodded truck to upgrade the intercooler. But you are wise to advise him as you did because many people won't see much improvement with milder trucks.

An intercooler is a worthwhile expense imo, but it should be one of the last things you do to "round out" the package.

Before I buy an intercooler, I will FIRST buy an intake temperature gauge that would tell me if I really needed one or not.

If your intake temps are 130 or lower in the intake horn on a hot summer day, then I'd say you've got all the reasonable intercooler performance a person could want.

my plan was to do the IC, some sort of fuel pump, then a clutch and be set for a while.

i guess i will put the fuel system in prioity i think mine has an issue after 153k miles. then a clutch.

i need to read about the hot flash, and find out how safe it would be for my application. i am not in the mood to crater anything.

thank yall for your advice.

HTT has flow tested many of the coolers. Their new one flow more than the spearco and is less expensive.

My brother just recently blew his out hauling a load up to Idaho. He went with the BD intercooler. His truck is an 04.5 and has simliar mods to mine. The intercooler is actually pretty nice. All metal, pretty stout and looks mean up there

I agree that you dont need an intercooler just yet. Theres other things you could buy first with that much money to get better gains than the IC.

I got a Banks unit to replace the original one that was damaged when I got the truck. I looked at the ones from Spearco, Hellman, and BD power (HTT's wasn't out yet). I got the Banks because it came with larger tubing to and from the intercooler and it also came with the air horn with larger inlet to match the piping for less than the cost of the others and what my local dealer wanted for a stock replacement. I am happy with the purchase but if I had an extra 500 dollars I probably would have went with the Spearco or the new one from BD power and a CFM air horn.

I bought a cooltwist intercooler from city diesel and a cfm+ intake for around a thousand bucks. I think it'll flow all the air I need and everybody I talked to that had one liked it as well.

where is the sensor located that my edge/ attitude calls "intake temp" i am assuming its before the turbo, it is usually 12-20 degrees above outside time.

if its 60 degreee out side, it registers 62-80 degrees on my "intake temp" any help?
