Which Adhesive for Dash ??

Sorry in advance - this isn't for my Diesel Dodge, but for an accessory I use in 3 vehicles, including the Dodge..........

I recently purchased a Lowrance iWay 600C GPS for use in the Diesel Dodge, my '02 Toyota 4Runner, and in my boat. Boat and truck I've got nailed, the 4Runner is the problem. The windshield mount, aside from being illegal in many places, is un-satisfactory in other ways as well, and the only place the suction cup mount will conveniently fit is on the console just ahead of the transfer case shifter.

Trouble is, that short section of console is slightly curved, and I'm having trouble getting the base stuck down good. First I tried Liquid Nails, and it stuck real good, but after 3 days curing, I just pulled it loose - the stuff hadn't even started to set up. Apparently the plastic prevented the solvents from evaporating.

Next I tried some PC-7, a 2 part epoxy similar to JB Weld, and that set up fine, but this morning I mounted the GPS and it quickly popped loose. The epoxy set-up OK, but didn't stick to the plastic on either side.

What can I use to mount that base ?? I doubt if the plastic is thick or strong enuf to hold screws. Thanks

Lar.

I just installed my Tom Tom GPS using the mount shown below, (see link). It just clips on/off, easy to remove. It's kind of spendy but you don't have to mess with glue or screws.

The Proclip is a vehicle/device specific two part mount. For your toyota the vehicle bracket is $35. The device holder, (mounts to vehicle bracket), for your Lowrance is $40, for a total of $75 plus shipping. More expensive than most other mounts but considering the quality, stability, accessability, and ease of install worth it in my opinion. I belong to a couple of GPS forums and this mounting system is very popular.

I'm going to try a little modification, if at all possible. I already have the very good RAM mounts for the truck and boat, and the 1" ball is mounted to the back of the GPS with 2 screws. I like the system very much, but it'd be a nuisance (but do-able, I guess) to hafta switch it out every time I move it from rig to rig. I'm newly retired, and doing a lot of day trips in the 'Runner, and overnighters in the Diesel Dodge/camper. I do have an extra RAM mounting ball that I may be able to mount on the dash plate of your system. Maybe just drill and tap a couple of holes and screw it on...........??

I do like your system. It will hold the GPS up more into the line of sight and make it easier to check without moving my eyes so far off the road. The Lowrance menus are different from the Garmins that I'm used to, (and they're very different from each other) but seem logical and fairly easy to learn. I like the big, bright color screen, and am surprised that I'm already coming to like the touch screen. I thought it would be a nuisance, but it works well.
