Assuming 2WD, first hub when out at about 75K, the other went out at about 88K. Dealer only part, $275. First change was about two hours (spindle nut was very difficult to get off) and the second i did in less than an hour. I have not discovered a way to rebuild my old ones with a new timken bearing.

i posted this several years ago, here it again......
here`s a new twist on the sealed wheel bearings on my 01 3500 .... (rwd) I noticed a strange noise when turning left, the noise would go away when I applied my brakes. so I figured it`s time to replace at least the front pads. but when I jacked it up , I found a real loose wheel bearing ... fearing the bearing had gone out, I proceeded to dismantle it (drivers side) Imagine my surprise when I started to remove the bearing nut and found it loose !!! apparently the rotation of the forward motion had loosend the self locking nut.... If I had not caught it early on, It could have caused some real damage..... So here`s a word of caution to any body that has a rwd dodge with sealed front wheel bearings------check dhe drivers side nut. the self locking feature on mine failed ----- mileage is about 113K

I'm getting ready to change my front, drivers side hub. Kept hearing rattle at low speed, window down, hitting little bumps. Sounded just like a loose brake pad in the caliper. Hub bolt was loose by 1/2 turn and hub was slightly wobbling. Now with the bolt tight, there is a very slight rattle, but any rattle has to go. Truck has 112000 miles on it. Great timing too. Leaving tomorrow for a 1200 mile trip. Taking tools and jack with me. Yes, I have a 3/4 drive metric set, 19mm to 50mm.
Does the caliper mounting bracket HAVE to come off to change the hub?
If I remeber right, those bolts are 18mm. I have tried to break them loose in the past to absolutely no avail. Looking at the repair man., I am going to have to get them loose.

Napa Auto Part has them. They are Chicago Rawhide which is now owned by SKF.

My 2002 lost drivers side at 100,000 miles. replaced both for just over 500.00 (parts). Bgt from NAPA.
