Wheel Cylinder Replacement

Well i noticed my rear drivers side brake drum has fluid leaking out of it pretty good. So my first thought is the wheel cylinder is probably bad so i picked a new one up today, my quesion is what all needs to be done in order to replace the old with the new. Thanks mitch@jc

take it back and get the chevy 1 ton wheel cylinders. infidel has the part #'s.

cheaper and larger bore for more force on the brake shoes. might want to replace as a pair.

Two bolts on the back, and a brakeline, and it should come right out. I was able to swap them without having to disassemble anything.

Simple, easy and effective going to the GM wheel cylinders. I paid $11 each at NAPA for them when I did my brakes last month.

Replace both cylinders with #37337 number good at any autoparts for about $13.

Your drums may be stuck on, easiest way to get them off is to put the rear end on stands, remove tires, put one lug nut back on loosely, start the truck put it in gear then slam on the brakes in forward and reverse.

You will only have to remove one spring to replace the cylinder. I always crack the brake line loose before removing the two bolts.

On a scale of one to five cylinder replacement is at an easy one.

Yes the #37337 Chevy wheel cylinders are a direct replacement, so they fit fine, the only difference is that they have a bigger bore than the Dodge wheel cylinders. I got mine at NAPA, but any parts store should be ably to cross reference that part number.

Just one thing to note, the first time I asked for this part number at my local parts store, they gave me Wagner wheel cylinders that looked different, they had the dust boot on the outside, instead of on the inside. Then I went to NAPA, and they gave me the correct ones which have the dust boot on the inside. I'm not sure why the Wagner wheel cylinders are different, or if they even fit, they are correct for a 1-ton Chevy truck.
