What's the transmission in a '95 2500?
My father-in-law has a '95 2500 Cummins w/automatic transmission. What transmission is this? He has had a lot of trouble with the transmission kicking down into a lower gear for no reason, or kinda searching for gears. The truck has over 200K miles on it, and the transmission was rebuilt about 50K miles ago. The truck does not see hard duty, so I don't think that the problem is mechanical. What electrical problems can cause this, or is there something mechanically wrong with the transmission?

Mine was the TPS, do a search on here for TPS or overdrive hunting.
Could be as simple as the Alternator making too much electrical noise as well.
If it shifts clean, I would look to electrical issues first.
