Rather than go through the fabrication of adding a drain plug, I would just buy a Mag-Hytec pan that already has one. It also has more capacity, a temp sender port, and cooling fins too.

If you want to do it yourself just pull the pan, drill a hole in it and weld on a half nipple. Then screw in a pipe plug. Quarter inch pipe is a good size, with a 3/8" hole. Position it on the "side" of the pan as close to the bottom as possible. This is the cheapest way to go and works fine. Or, as amartinson said, just get a Mag-Hytec pan. The switch will only take an hour and you will have a port for the temp sensor too. The Mag pans are really nice!
I was going to weld on my own plug but decided to get the Mag pan and I'm glad I did.

B&M makes a drain plug kit that only costs a couple of dollars. Pull the pan, drill a hole, and bolt it on. That's it. That's what I run because there's no way I'm spending a couple hundred dollars for a pan..............

Mark Thomas,

You can do a plug kit or get a replacement pan, we have the cast aluminum PML pans and they come with a magnetic drain plug, cap screw hardware to mount the pan and they are not powder coated so they throw of the fluid temps much faster than a powder coated pan, powder coating is a very good insulator etc.
We have also seen the same 25-30 degrees of fluid temp drop with the PML pans as the pans that add nearly twice the fluid amount. This saves you fluid cost, especially if you change over to synthetics and gets you the same degree of temp drop.

I think I will go for the B&M kit, I'm not about spending that kinda money on a pan that only prolly costs them 40 or 50 dollars to make and sell!

Our trucks already have a deep pan anyways... The only thing you will be missing is the fitting for a trans temp guage but that's just a drill and tap away anyways.
If you do go with the B&M kit just be sure to pay attention to where you put it so you dont end up with it hitting the valve body or filter. It does stick up a little bit inside the pan. Also, DON'T buy the crappy kit that they sell at the major auto chains. They SUCK! Make sure you get the B&M kit. I think Pep Boys sells it and most Performance shops stock them also....
