Hi,

As you can see from my Sig I have a #10 installed, however I'm now thinking that they may have sent me a something different. The truck go's like a bat out of hell even with 15K of trailer behind it. But I'm blowing black smoke all over the place and the turbo cannot catch up, the plate face is almost flat but with a small lip on the bottom. I'm thinking that I have a #100 and not a #10. My Exhaust Temp, shoots up very fast when towing up hill, hits 1300 very fast so i have to keep backing off the hammer, which is no fun when your pulling uphill.

I have 3k springs and this ??? Plate, the rest is stock, I have stock pipes and do not want to upgrade the pipe, nor do I want to melt the pistons.

So my question is:-

I use the truck ( 1995 Gen 2 5 speed) just for towing a horse trailer all over the country, what would be the best plate to get / have to give a little more grunt to get up some hils but not to haze out everyone who is behind me ?

If it ONLY has a curve atthe bottom and nothing above it, might be a #100..

Its either you do it with your foot, or the plate does it. Its exactly the same results, less fuel, just by slightly different means. If you're blowing a lot of smoke with low or no boost, your AFC is too loose and/or too far forward. If you're blowing smoke at full boost, you're overfueled. Pull the plate back some.

Be carefull I'm told If you use an aftermarket fuel plate for work such as pulling you'll have a meltdown.

Are you saying any plate, or just the "budget minded" ones?
If you are saying any plate, then that's not true. Plenty of guys on here have either altered plates, or no plates, and are doing fine.

I have a 10 plate in the stock position. I don`t see any smoke and the truck pulls good.I see 36 boost with my foot in it.I have 4" MBRP cool duals409 SS . I will have a billet single TC installed in a few days and then I will play with the 10 plate a bit.I tow in OD all the time and don`t have heat problems. my pryo says 1100 most every time pulling on a long hill. I like not having to watch the proyo all the time. I need a three piller so I can get the proyo up . A stock truck can`t come close to my truck pulling or empty. Passing empty is a breeze lol. Like my 95 5.9

If by chance your truck was originally a California spec truck, it will have egr, and the very restrictive intake manifold. Mine was, and with a #8 plate, I couldn't get it to not smoke and send egt's through the roof, and all because the intake was choked. Swapped for an aftermarket intake and no more problems. Throwing it out there on the chance it was a California truck.

The part that is not included in the cheaper plate kits is the boost elbow for wastegate control.



I would ensure you are getting at least 35-38 psi of boost out of your stock turbo first. AFter that you will need to move the fuel plate back to trim the max fuel out of it. Black smoke=red zone EGTs

I got my 10 plate for under $50.00 and the boost elbow came with it. I went from 24 stock to 36 with the plate and elbow. Installed where the stock plate was and never adjusted it forward. Its near the middle and lots of room to move it forward. later Don

Good to know.. OK, then its time to pull that plate back or pull your foot back when EGT's begin to climb.

I got a ten plate with boost elbow for 29 bucks off ebay (plus 5.95 shipping)....same as big dollar kit. I'm with Tate sounds like an AFC position problem
