Weird Noise in G56?

I have a 2005 with the G56 and in 5th and 6th gear wether i'm on the fuel or not it gives a rattiling sound worse when i'm out of the fuel, say coming to a stop light for say. The whole trans makes weird sounds like something it always grinding, i checked all fluids and they are fine, i thought it could be the dual mass flywheel, if so i'll just go ahead and buy another clutch! I appreciate al the advice! Thanks chad

i test drove a 06 with the g56 and in 4th and 6th it made a noticale "meshing"not grinding but definatly louder than the others.it also did it when coasting to a stop.the truck had very low miles but pulled some heavy weight as it had a gooseneck hitch and airbags,it was a 3500 srw.the dealer told me the noise was normal and shrugged it off quick and then started playing with the power windows and mirors to distract me.the truck is still there and that was in the summer i drove it.

My G56 makes all kinds of noises too. I just figured it was normal. I have a new SouthBend on order so we’ll see what that does. From what I’ve heard the SBs are even noisier, but they hold better than the stocker.

Question Throw out bearing??

Mine makes the same noise. At idle, in neutral, clutch out is when you can hear the spinning/grinding noise and once you press the clutch in a wait a few seconds the spinning slows down and stops, let the clutch out again and it spins again. I am taking the truck to the dealership tomarrow for a CEL and a look at the clutch for the second time. Do you think the sound that mitternocht and myself are hearing is a throw out bearing?

Mine's almost as quiet as our Honda. Shift's better cold than the Honda. The only thing I've done is switchout the factory fill for Amsoil ATF. I love this clutch and tranny. I lucked out.

Mine's done it since 4k miles, now i have over 40k. Dealer says they can't do anything but change the oil, which they did, didn't change the sound. It gets worse slowly, though it hasn't gotten any worse in the past few thousand miles, or i've just learned to live with it. It also sounds like there is a bearing going out when i hold the stick, if it dies soon, at least the dealer has my complaints on record.

My buddy has one just like mine, doesn't make a sound.

Quiet G56

My G56 shifts and as quiet as my Beetle TDI. Smooth as silk but just a little longer throw than the TDI. Amsoil fluid.

when its cold out, in the 20's, mines a little rougher then what i like, but i cant complain, i need to swap out the fluids soon in it, this is off the subject but i installed a 10 speed road ranger transmission shiftknob, and ive got a 7" exhaust system that exits right before the duals, it sounds good, but it makes the shifter rattle, i have to flip the high and low range switch up and keep my finger on it to keep it from rattling, , thats my only complaint but its my own doing lol

Me too,..... except, my SBC DD makes it sounds as loud as a 2nf Gen when it's in neutral.

You can hear/feel the OEM dual-mass on the '05 talking when coming to a stop or shutting down.
