weight equalizer

I have a class 4 hitch receiver, and a EZ Lift equalizer.
I used it on my Avion, at three links, and it pulled great.
It seemed to transfer about 500 lbs to the front.
So...I traded in the Avion, and now have a wildcat 34 RLT.
Using the same set up, the bars are completely unloaded, at three links. I have to link up 5 links to get the barest amount of weight on them, and even that is minimal.
What do I have to change to get this to fit right.
The trailer is level, 1000 lbs tongue weight when hitched.
I want to take off about 250 or maybe more tongue weight when the bars are on.

First when describing how many links you're using count the links under tension. Not a real issue it's just the common way of describing it.

Now for the problem. Sounds like you need to tilt the hitch head to the rear some more. It won't take much to make a difference. Since your RV is level when hitched you won't have to worry about that. Just tilt the head back a notch or two. You should shoot for 5 or 6 links under tension.

The true way to tell if your WD is correct is to weigh the setup, but an easier way to get there is to setup up on a level surface and measure to the top of the wheel wells at front and back of the TV with the RV unhooked. Then hookup and snap up the chains and measure again. You're trying to get the front and back to lower about the same. Keep tilting the head back or taking up links till that happens.

I wondered if it was something like that.
Links under weight, on the old rig was like 5 or six, now it is only like 3, any less, and I can't get the bars to swing clear. I will adjust the tilt, and re-post.

I set my Reese straight line hitch up 2 years ago.
As was said, you have to tilt the receiver to put more load on the bars. One good way to go about it is to set the truck and trailer on a level surface and measure the height of the front and real fenders of the truck unloaded. then set the hitch so that when it is all hitched up you get about the same lowering at the front and the back and about 4 or 5 links of chain exposed.
