Way to start up with overdrive off?

is there a way on 02' 4 speed automatic to make the truck always start up with the overdrive off?

Seems like even if you turn it off when driving, the next time you start up overdrive is back on......

Thanks,

As far as I know there isn't anything you can do. Only thing is after every start up just hit the button...

For some folks it better on their tranny to never use OD such as 100% city driving.
If you want your tranny to last it's better to lock out OD until you're going over 50 mph and plan on staying at least that fast for at least several minutes.

but why force it off..

does it switch into overdrive at less than 50?

I'm not trying to be a smart *** but trying to learn and understand. lots of my driving is less than 50 mph, but I'm also running empty and not towing..I could 40-50 and towing..kill the OD.

what about just being easy on the throttle? and the the auto do what it does?

This is one of the first mods I did to my truck when I bought it. I do lots of rural driving where the speeds can reach 4th gear but its up and down shifting due to the speed fluctuations as well as the converter locking unlocking. Personally I found the trans temps stayed lower and less cycling of the lock up clutch, When I need it flick the switch and away we go.May not be for everybody but suits my driving needs perfectly

In this case I could see it...maybe, I had a transgo shift kit installed and this "cant find the right gear" issue disappears once you do this.

I just push mine off right after truck start up. Once out on the highway and I reach higher speeds like infidel stated. I will push it again and allow OD to engage. I just don't feel like wiring it differently,LOL.

To tell you the truth I don't practice what I preach.
But then at the end of my driveway the speed limit is 75 mph for 12 miles till the first stop sign, about 35 miles till the next one.

Well living on a 75mph road makes sense! I'm used to doing it cause roads around me are 80 kmh...so figure 50mph. Sometimes I'll let her go into OD around that speed as long as I know I'm not going to be slowing down, speeding up a lot. And the acceleration with OD off around 50mph is nice to pass, etc

I put a switch on the converter lock where I can disable it for driving below 50. I find I can keep the revs lower than when locked in direct with the O/D switch.

If I pull a heavy load I use the O/D switch.

I mounted the switch next to the O/D switch. I later found a fog light switch that I plan to use so the switches look the same.
