Is the water seperator that you can get on aftermarket fuel filters a necessity for veggie systems? Or can you get away with just using the stock seperator to tell you if you got water in your fuel?
I only ask becase I can get two filter heads for $40.00 that don't have seperators, while one with a seperator costs twice that much...
(On a tangent, does anybody make stand alone water seperators that you can plumb in series with the filters?)

Get the thread size and go to the store and see if the guys have a reference to match a filter with a drain to the filter head... You will find that a lot of filters have other filters that are related to them but are longer or shorter depending on the application.
I would for sure have a seperator other than the stock one just because the QC on the veggie fuel is not what you would find at the pump.

Be advised that water CAN NOT be completely filtered out of vegetable oil. Emulsified water will pass through the filter and will not even be found in the bottom of the filter let alone detected. Heating and settling is a well proven and inexpensive route for de-watering.

A way to check for H2O is to heat up a fry pan with about 2 Tsb. oil in it. Get it hot enough to where it is smoking a bit. Add about 1/4 cup of the oil you want to test. If the oil pops and bubbles form on the bottom, you've got water! If some small bubbles form but not pop, you still have water, just not as much. Always check as each batch will vary.
