Water pump - what's up with this?
Gonna spend Thanksgiving break wrenching on the goat. I was pricing water pumps today. NAPA has a new one for 45.99, dealer wants 275.00. Is this much difference common? Something seems not right about this. Let me know your opinions. Thanks.

It's not just Dodge dealers. The local Caddy dealer wanted over $700 to change out the water pump in my wifes car. The pump was $36 on line, figure it will take less than 2 hours on the northstar engine.

Is that $45.99 water pump from NAPA a new one or re-conditioned?

I replaced mine last winter and I got it through cummins, I wanna say it was no more than $60. The dealer is outrageous when it comes to its parts prices. I'm sure the Napa one is good to use too.

But yea, before I would pay 700, I would be doing it myself as well.

It was reconditioned. They had a new option that was $81.00, but no one has them in stock. O'reilly's across the street had a new one for $58, probably go that route, their re-man was $35 with core. I knew dealers were higher, just surprised it was that much.

I bought my water pump from Auto Zone three years ago for around $35. The pump has a lifetime warranty. The new pump was made in Canton Ohio vs the original made in England. The dealer wanted well over $200. Pays to shop.
