Water pump took a poo...

Afternoon, DTR.

Dang water pump took a dump on me today. Noticed a drip that was not there yesterday, so I got under the old girl and licked it (not really ) and it was antifreeze. DANG!

Dealer said that they'd cover it for the 100 dollar deductible. I got a cool dealer, they are using the words 'warranty' and 'your truck' in the same sentence...

Truck only has 71k on it.

Anyho... just thought I would share.

That is good news! Hate you have to spend the $100 but you don't have to get greasy.

Really? Dealer told me that the part was 350... I'll have to check in on that...

Yeah, it's not hard to install. Very nice design.

Well, it is covered under the 100,000 engine warranty. Mine was replaced at 60something thousand and they tried to collect 100 until I pointed that out.

So, I don't have to pay the 100? How can I prove that?

I will look in my warranty book tomorrow. I know there has been a few discussions on this board and some others about it being covered.

Has anyone tried calling a Cummins truck shop for a water pump? I know the dealers raped you for a #4 injector line for >$100. Cummins sold the exact same part for $20. I would trust a Cummins pump far more than a generic car parts chain brand at any price.

These guy's are correct Madhat, it is covered. In my opinion If you have a dealer that treats you well, then $100.00 for doing the job saves you time and aggravation, your happy and they are happy? Just my .02

I just put a Cummins water pump in an ISB at my shop. Pump cost me about $50.00 and 1/2 hour for the install. The whole job took a little longer cause I did a t-stat and coolant change also, 200k on a 01 Sterling medium duty truck.

Wink

Our warranty is 100,000 miles or 5 years, whichever comes first. I also had mine go out just a couple months ago. I had the extended warranty, but just my luck the Cummins warranty had expired in January as that was 5 years after the truck was originally purchased.
It was also $350 for the factory part, and about $100 for install. Really I was happy to pay the $100 deductable.
