Water leak in cab
Hi to all, its been a while since I've been on site, sad to say that a major problem has brought be back to inquire.
My truck, a 95 Diesel somehow has acquired a leak that has soaked the front floor mat on the drivers side. I've went to the dealership they said that it could be the third stop light leaking, it could be the rear sliding window, it could be the windshield, or it could be the door seal. So I pulled back the carpet on the drivers side and got out the garden hose and ran water but could not find anything that look like a leak. I did notice that I didn't have to be driving for it to leak water into the front. just parked in the rain It would come in and soak the carpet all along the drivers door, but not only along the door but also under the foot pedals all the way over to the transmission tunnel.
So my question is has anyone else had this happen to them? And where is it mostly likely to be coming from?
Robert.

Ok, lets assume that the leak was the third stop light or even the rear sliding window; How would the water get from the back of the cab to the front and not get any of the carpet wet in the rear of the cab? Now that's a puzzler to me. I can not find anything wet except along the drivers door and well under where the drivers feet rest on the floor.

If you pull up the carpet you'll see how it gets to the front. The rear is higher and has some low paths for the water to flow down.
Another easy way to find the leak source is to cover the outlet vents on the lower rear of both your door jams with tape, turn the fan on high in any position besides recirculate, all windows shut, then spray soapy water on the suspected leak areas. Look for bubbles.

Good thought infidel.
Great minds think alike.......I must say I did not think of that, that's what the dealership said to do, and I did it. Not much to report though, just a few bubbles around the felt strips on the sliding rear window. But to me it didn't seem like something that would completely soak up the underside of the floor mat. I mean you could ring water out of the undermatting, which looks like a major leak to me????? not something that blows a little bubbles.???? Here again I could be wrong.
But I do thank you for all your thoughts. Now! there was a guy at the glass shop that said that he had the same year truck and that he got water in on his floor mat as well. He noticed that there was a large gap between the bottom of the door and the rubber seal that runs along the bottom of the door opening and it has a plastic molding that lays overtop of it, his contention was that there was to much gap, so he put a shim under the rubber seal that raised it up also raising up the plastic molding, and that stopped his leak. Now that was the next thing that I was going to do, until I thought of coming on site and throwing the question out to you all.
So what do you think of his Idea?

My '99 was leaking at the third brake light as well, you could (and still can ) see a watermark on the headliner.
This doesn't sound like your truck too me, but it is a place where these things seem to commonly leak.

Another known probem is the windsheld seal leaking at the top and running down the inside getting the driver's side floor wet. My 94 had that problem until seal was fixed.

Well AaronT that's just about where I have left it, ether the windshield seal or the bottom door seal. Mind you, I could be wrong but that's why I thought I would post it on the site and see what other Ideas are out there.
I thank you all for your input. But I really don't want to pull the windshield if I don't have too, I hate the thoughts of doing that, that's why I've been dragging my feet.

You can confirm it is the windshield, then repair the leaking area with urethane adhesive. You do not have to remove the windshield, lift the seal away from metal and a little dab will do yah.

I have the same problem on my 01. I can actually see the water dripping right by the clutch pedal. Happens everytime it rains or when I wash the truck. Leaves a nice puddle on the floor mat.

Some thing you may need to keep in mind is rainwater will track and get places that tap water won`t go. I think it has something to do with it being soft water...

hlcptr...........I whish my leak would drop down on top of the floor mat. Mine does not show any water on top of the rubber part of the floor mat, but the carpet part is soaked..................even under the rubber part of the floor mat.......Now that's a bummer.

Infidel pretty much nailed this one.....I've been using soapy water for years now to find leaks. I would spray the windshield area with soapy water, get in the cab with a blow gun and check all around the windshield with the help of a friend.
THAT process will ALWAYS find a leaky windshield.
I really doubt that the rubber strip under the door is causing you to get the floor wet!! Too many areas that the water would have to go "uphill" to soak your floor. I would bet that is not the area of concern.
If I were a betting man, your front "A" pillar is leaking around the windshield, dripping under the trim, down to the floor behind the dash.
