Water in fuel light on-drained canister, it's still on?

Hi,
We just had a big storm here in Ca, maybe a very little came in when I was putting diesel in truck yesterday. I don't think it came from my tank (the defect where the water rests on top of the tank of certain truck types if you know what I mean.
Anyway I drove it probably 30-40 miles, I thought it was the door ajar light, it runs fine and after I looked carefully I realized what light it was and drained the stock fuel filter but the light hasn't gone out. Does it take a bunch of on-off key cycles to erase code? I was aware of water splashing when I filled up, I moved to another pump, I really doubt if more than a single drop or maybe two got in that way. I have a 2 mic and fuel water seperator, and I got out and drained that (FW sep).
I have a Smarty haven't used it to clear codes yet, but after I drain the FW sep and stock fuel canister (guess I'm glad I didn't bypass and/or remove it now) a couple more times if the light hasn't gone out, I'll see if I can clear code.
What I'm asking is, it isn't telling me water is still in the canister is it?

Try this: drain the fuel, pull the filter again and wipe the contacts and the area around them inside the cannister with a clean cloth - then pull the connector and make sure it's dry and clean and the pins are not oxidized

Boy, this is a first. First time I have ever heard of a WIF light coming on on a 3rd Gen..... Did you put what you drained out in a container to see if it really had water in it. I would....

Ya i drain a little off every time i fuel up, and catch it so i can see if it had any water in it. Maybe 2 out of 10 it will but in 65,000 miles ive never seen the WIF light. Seems i saw it several times over the years in my 99.

Same way with my buddy. He has had two 24V's and one of them would give the WIF light pretty often. The one he has now I only know of happening a couple times. My 3rd gen has never given a WIF light. Of course my filterminder seems to work and his would never budge on either truck.

I open the valve every Saturday when I give the truck a once over but hardly ever catch any. The few times I have caught any there was only one that had a very small amount of water in it. I got it in a 2 liter bottle and it was just barely enough to put some water in one of the dented spaces in the bottom of the bottle.

I don't know where all of your filters are but I would definetly consider changing them all out. You are gonna ruin your injectors if you don't.

I didn't save any liqued, but I will now. I've drained everything twice now. I also cycled key 10 times, and it's still on. Going to take filter out today and at least wipe off terminals.
Putting dielectric grease on plug-do you mean on the prongs (they're prongs that are 'poking' out into the fuel filter's canister's space, right or similar) or in something else.
I have my fuel boss feeding the FW seperater first, then the 2 mic. I also have the stock fuel pump still working on origional line (fuel boss has seperate 3/8" drawstraw, and return line) The light would have to come from the origional 10 mic canister-and I was at about a 1/4 tank (starting to grab air with the fuel boss) when I filled up when it was raining. Now that I've thought more about it, I wonder if I pumped fuel in that had water in it. I got it from a Shell, not really a big truck stop (I actually didn't fill up like I said above in first post, power went out in station after I moved to another pump, I forgot that, but 1 or 2 drops of water MAY have gotton in)
I'm going to change everything I can tomorrow (I doubt I can get the filters today) and going to drain again this morning and check and wipe inside of canister.
Thanks for the advice-so are you saying if must really have water in it if the light NEVER comes on for most people?

The connectors are female on the wires and male on the filter canister. I have had a similar problem for the last 50kmi. When I go through an underbody wash or the roads are wet and/or the air very humid for an extended period I get a wif light. Sometimes it is fine when I shut it down but the light will be on in the morning. It has NEVER happened when dry outside, other than an underbody wash as I mentioned.

Like with you draining the canister does nothing. Mine shuts off after about 30min of driving, I have never seen any water come out either. Today I had it happen and I greased up the connectors (both the wif sensor and fuel heater because I keep blowing fuel heater fuses), I also hosed down the whole area with wd-40, didn't help. Drove it 10 more miles and the light went out. Go figure.

I think the reason most 3rd gens don't get wif lights is the fuel tank, I believe water gets trapped in the bottom of the tank and rarely moves through the fuel system, it just sits there. The last two winters I have had a few problems with losing fuel pressure when it's very cold, under 15deg or so. The truck will actually suck the fuel system dry, you can hear air rush in when you open the drain valve. Yet the fuel is still not gelled or cloudy. I am assuming that water is freezing on that fine screen in the tank and not letting fuel through. Warm it up for 10min and all is well. I really need to drop my tank and see whats in the bottom!!

Good luck, I personally doubt you actually have water getting to the filter housing.

I changed all my filters yesterday. I looked down into the stock filter housing and didn't see anything, no water or debris. Just the prongs. They looked clean I didn't wipe them off. Wif fuel lite is still on. I'm going to use Smarty to erase it.
I want to stop the way the stock lift pump sends fuel only to the 'last chance filter' (not my FW sep and my 2 mic). It's great being able to run below 1/4 tank with my aftermarket drawstraw, but I don't like the minimal filtering taking place.
I was looking at this article-http://sbmar.com/Articles/MarineFuel-Filtration_MultiStage.cfm

Well if most of the water is in the bottom of the tank it still dosen't explain the posts with all the damage costing thousands of dollars to repair because of water/trash and still no WIF light working.Same on the D/max sites and the system is basicly the same.

Started my truck up this morning, it idled up and down, and the check engine light came on (still there). The Wif light is out now, though.
Guess I better tell the station I believe I got a bad tank of diesel from them. What else should I do, anybody?
