you have a 6 speed so one would assume you have an H.O.?? H.O.'s have the HX-35 so why not just buy an adjustable boost elbow.

Manual boost controller.
I had one put one a few weeks ago and have the adjuster opened up all the way. I hit about 30-32 psi boost.
Cost was in the dirt (~$40).
I will have something on order tomorrow that will give me more fuel, therefore more boost, so I will probably need to turn it down a bit.
I have the JoeP one from this page Click here

EDIT: without the MBC, I was hitting about 20-21psi (with or without the Smarty). I mention above about turning it down because I believe I read somewhere that the HX-35 is out of its efficiency map above 32. I need to go find out if that is correct.

RE-EDIT: RJohnson has stated that 35psi on the HX-35 is about the max you would want to go to. I am sure he has done his homework, so I would go by that.

Question Boost Controller???

With a boost controller I can turn up the boost with just a smarty, exhaust, and a intake without hurting anything???

If so, what is the max I want to turn it up to???

Yep.
According to others, 35 psi is about as high as you want to go on an Hx-35 before it starts becoming in-efficient. I forget what the stock head gasket/studs are good for, but I believe it is well above 35psi.

If you have a HY35 and a 6 speed tranny someone has change the turbo. The 6 speeds came from the factory with a HX35. If there is a rubber hose from the wastegate to the ebow, it's a HX. The HY has a metal tube between them.

If you need to find a HX35 check Ebay.

Unfortionatlly this is the second motor in the truck, the first one was removed with everything, that was before I knew what a HY or HX was...

This motor came out of an 02' with 18k when I got it...

Manual Boost Controller goes in line, on the hose running between the wastegate and the turbo cool air discharge tube (see my gallery).
Simple 15 min job, direction should show it all.
The JoeP MBC is the least expensive... and all you need. The others just have more bells & whistles!

If its an Hy.. it could have the hard line between the compressor housing and the actuator... This will make it a little harder to put in the manual boost controller... not sure how much boost are going to see with Just the Smarty.. I'm guessing about the same as an EZ?? 28-32psi???

The idea behind the Bank "Big Head" was that as you built boost.. and drive pressure.. that the increased drive (exhaust manifold) pressure could push the wastegate open.. the Big Head would help to keep the gate closed until the set pressure... I don't think many have found this to be a problem..

I'd rig up something to hold it closed and see how much boost it will build.. then decide what you need to do... A different turbo would be best, next the manual boost controller, then J-hook...

Good Luck,
Bryan

Yup... G-Note Need a turnbuckle. Know of no way to convert hardline wastegate actuator to a hose setup.
Turnbuckle pictured here.
