waste oil in a common rail?

Can I burn waste motor oil or waste hydraulic oil in a common rail? I know I have to filter it verry good. What percentage would work?

Cummins allows 10% WMO. I wouldn't run WHO.

The trick is to filter, filter, filter. As long as you filter & dewater better than required, you'll be fine. I've gotten as high as 50% premixing with Kerosene. I also run an Airdog with filters for extra protection.

I've been using WMO in my 03 for several years. I shoot for about 5%. Sure runs a lot quieter!

I do not filter though, as I'm counting on stock filters to catch any crud.

When you have to replace injectors you'll wish you hadn't.

That would be my concern as well.... Not sure I'd recommend running it in a CR at all, but if you were going to anyways......

We find the filtering process much easier if we thin out the oil with Kerosene or Diesel before filtering it....

It all get's filtered before it gets in the tank.

I do the same thing as 9812vram. mix first then water separater, water seperater/5um filter into tank. Truck has an Airdog water seperater and 2um filter before it hits the CP3.

What kind of setup are you guys using for filtering before it goes in the tank?

I would also like to know this. I have seen a few backyard type set ups but would like to see what you guys are doing here.
I have the 3 gallons from my last oil change I'd like to try.

With my fumoto drain valve, I don't have to worry about all the crud in the oil from a drain pan... I would keep my old oil jugs, and just drain the oil into them.

Then, the next time I filled the truck up, I would just pour the oil in. Three gallons of oil is 10% of 30 gallons of fuel.

I have tried to find the Cummins PDF saying what percentage of WMO that they approved, but I can't find it. I remember it being 10%...

But did you filter it first?

Nope. I put magnets on my oil filter, so I'm not too worried about metals, and the five mic filters I have should catch the rest of it.

I have been wanting to build a filter setup, but I'm gonna wait until I have a beater diesel. McDonald's will bust me for stealing WVO.
