Waste gate?

I was wondering if there is some way to make the waste gates on the 06's sound like they did on the 98-02's. Thats the biggest thing I miss about my old truck.... the big woosh sound as I shift ! I'm planning on getting twins at some point in the near future too... maybe the r700 race twins. I'd really like to get that sound back some how? Anyway to do this... or will I just have to deal with a quiet waste gate?

You'll have to deal with it, you have a electronic waste gate. So your SOL

There are lots of threads relating to the electronic wastgete. You can manually control the wastegate on the turbo by providing your own boost source thru a brass boost elbow and set the boost level to what you desire. You will need some type of boost fooler so the ECM thinks the boost is still within a valid stock range. I use the TST-R49 to boost fool the ECM and had a boost source from the intake piped to my stock turbo for a couple of years before replacing stock turbo with the Silver Bullet last winter.

Once you replace the stock Turbo with a turbo that has a manual boost wastegate you also need to install other electronics that make the ECM think the electronic wastegate is still present or other codes and limp mode will result.

So boost fooler on the MAP sensor port so you can run higher than stock boost.

Wastegate fooler so you can run a manual wastgate turbo (if/when you choose to upgrade)

I would also love some twins.. 2 Turbos would be cool also..

Merry XMas..

The Smarty should take care of the boost fooling ... should it not?

I haven't seen a wastegate fooler... who makes one??

I believe the Smarty can only fool to the limit of the MAP sensor which is somewhere around 40-45lbs of boost. That is why a device that can fool the MAP sensor into thinking it is only seeing say 24lbs max so the ECM does not try to defuel. I use leave my TST connected just so the ECM never sees an overboost from running 45lbs on my Silver 62.

The wastgate fooler I think is just some type of resistor. The computer wants to see a load so it thinks it is still controlling the wastegate. Industrial injection sells them for $25 dollars and is what is on my truck. I have heard many people just unbolt the electric servo that is on the stock turbo and leave it connected to the truck harness and wiretie it up out of the way when they replace the stock turbo. I was going to do this and Mass Diesel was who recomended adding the wastegate fooler. Much cleaner way to accomplish the same thing.

I know there are others out there that sell a plug in device that fools the ECM into thinking an electric wastegate is connected.

If you are using the stock turbo you do not need any wastegate fooler. It is only needed if/when you repalce the stock turbo and ar then using a mechanical wastegate that comes on the replacement turbo. It only applies to 2004.5 and newer trucks.

Easy C? Whose steering brace are you using? Did it make a noticeable difference on the road? I have thought of adding one to help with the 19.5 Bridgestones from grabbing seams on the Highway.
You can PM a response so we are not hijacking this post.. Thanks...

So basically I just need BD's boost fooler.... and then the resistor from Industrial? Sounds simple enough.
And yes I'm going to do all this when I get the twins. Not going to bother going to all that work for the stock turbo

Thanks!
