Waste gate on new comp install?

I had a guy install a comp for me last week. He convinced me to tap the wire also. He said some of the 02's have a "hard lined waste gate". Mine is one of them. What he did was just grab the hard line and crimp/ crush it with a pair of vice grips. Seemed kind of crude, but he said without doing this you would not develop any boost pressure. Was this the right thing to do? The guy seemed to know his stuff, for as much as I can tell. He came highly recommended by the local guys.

Was there an altertnative to this vice grip method. I'm making 42 lbs. boost at full throttle if that helps.
Thought I knew some things about the comp before I put it on, but it seems like I have lots more questions since this thing was installed.

Oh yea........ THIS THING FREAKIN' ROCKS!!!

Let me get this straight.....you have 42 psi of boost and the only additional fueling is a Comp?!?! Something is a little strange there! Usually, 32 - 34 psi is what you would see from a 5x5'd Comp at WOT.

Yep, you got it 42 lbs. is what she peaked at. This was the first time I took if for a ride after comp installed. The guy who helped put it in seemed to be impressed by that # too. Being kind of new to this high performance stuff, I knew it was bettter than stock. Is that too much boost? Normally I'll see about upper 30's of boost when I mash the go peddal. But I've noticed my FP gets way low when I do that , so need to look at some better fueling options.

What does a hard lined waste gate mean? I also have an 02 and I tried an adjustable boost elbow and it did not seem to help me at all. With the factory elbow in place it would hit 20psi and then open up, with the adjustable elbow it would hit about 25psi then open up and drop it back down to 20psi. No matter what I did it would just keep opening up so I pulled the elbow out completely and stuck an 1/8" npt plug in the turbo hole and a large screw in the wastegate tubing so there is no way the wastegate will open up and now I am hitting 32psi WOT with only a power puck and a stage 2 intake.

Isgibb, there was a hard metal line coming from the turbo. This was crimped or crushed as described above. I believe what you did and what was done to mine accomplished the same thing. What I want to know .... is this bad. I remember in the past that some guys were using a .22 rimfire rifle casing to do something similar, but hey.. I'm still learning about all this stuff

Instead of crimping/crushing the hardline on the wastegate, you could have gone the the local hardware store and bought a 3 dollar turnbuckle and put this on the wastegate and this would have prevented it from opening up, this is the method i used incase i sell the the truck or what not, i can simply remove it in about 30 seconds. I dont now much about the method that u used, but if you ever remove the comp that has the boost fooler and run high boost numbers, you will set codes in the computer, keep doing searches and reading up on stuff, you will deff. learn alot from this site, i know i did

I used the turnbuckle method with a Comp. 32psi at WOT on 5x5. Best $3.00 I ever spent.

Here's a pic (not mine) of how I did it.

Another pic...again not mine.
