Does anyone have techniques for washing their carhartt jackets? When I wash it, it comes out white-like around the edges and looks bad, so I try my best to avoid washing it. I talked to a guy where I buy them and he told me to put a tablespoon of salt in the washer, with just the coat and it will wash it without streaks. He said the white I see is soap in the fabric? Just wondering if anyone has some ideas or anything...

I had mine dry cleaned last year. Thankfully it's black so it can go a while between cleanings. It's wierd how something that tough can't handle a little soap and water.

Your brave, everytime I washed my Carhart jacket It fell apart at the seam stitches, after several months of returning them and it happening again I gave up on Carhart. never had anyproblems with pants or overalls. Try turning it inside out, that typically helps against fade etc. Try Timberlinepro, There insulated/waterproof overalls are Xlnt, I have yet to get wet or cold wearing them on my bike at 80 mph in the rain. IMO, Carharts have become the Ford Powerstroke of clothing.

I wash my vest in a normal wash and then dry - no problems so far.

never had a problem washing mine normally.but then again I dont care what they look like when they come out of the wash as long as they dont stink. I only wear mine for work though.

Alright, one more question. How about getting the diesel smell out of them? or any clothing? I was bleeding our water pump (Perkins 354) and it squirted on my jacket and I washed it once, but it still reaked of diesel.

I usually put dawn diswashing liquid in the spot with diesel on it and rub it in real good this usually takes care of most of it.

I dryclean only. Diesel smell seems to go away, but the spots dont. Ive got a Carhart artic coat thats around 3 years old, but it looks pretty rough. I washed it once and it lost alot of color(tan) and decided it was dry clean only.

Throw a can of Coca-Cola in the wash. I don't know why, but it works on tough stains and smells. Tried, tested, and true by oilfield workers everywhere.

On Edit:: Make that the contents of that can - not the sealed can by itself. Just had to clarify after reading my post.

I just wash mine and don't worry about it. After a while they don't really come clean anymore, just getting the loose dirt off of 'em. If you wear them while working with hot stuff, make sure you are SUPER careful, the edges where they fray so bad are highly flammable, and you will do your best impression of the eternal flame if the get lit.

While cutting thru a triple thick portion of my dodge frame last yr with a gas chopsaw, I also found out they arent fire friendly! I just wash and dry mine, of course Im not making a fashion statement.

I'll agree about being toasty when they get frayed. Mine look horrible, but if you ignore the burns and stains, they're just like new

Might also add, don't forget to take the ammo out of the pocket before they go in the dryer . Wifey does like her new machine tho......

Carhartt makes flame resistent coats , but only a couple styles. We have to wear them at work now. It can be machine washed, I throw it in the machine once a week.
