Question Warranty Question

Trucks going to dealer Monday morning for two instances of dead pedal and the p0216 code. Dealer says truck is still covered under the Cummins 5yr/100k until 5/17/07. Those of you who have had injector pumps replaced, did your dealer install the "new" in tank pump, and was it covered by warranty? Anything you guys can think of that may come up Monday morning, let me know. I like to have my ducks in a row when it comes to service managers. Thanks, Rick

Hey. In order to keep your ducks in a row you need some guages. Primairly fuel pressure. My vp44 was replaced at 64,000. I still have the oem lift pump which is and was working fine. They should perform the volumn test on the lift pump. If it passes they will not do the intank install. I have a vulcan kit and cummins recall pump even though i still have warranty. I have not installed either yet. I personally would rather the relocation kit and the ability to change the pump without pulling the tank. My truck is maintained and the vp44 took an electronic dump. Just a fact of life with the vp44. Untill i lose pressure beyond 4 psi at ***** to the wall i am not going to intall the pump or relocation kit. Thats why you need guages.

Hi Rlee,

I had my lift pump replaced by the dealer under warranty with the in-tank one. From a fuel pressure perspective, the in-tank pumps are junk. I am only getting 8psi at idle and I can pull it down to almost 0 psi at WOT. I plan in installing the stock lift pump back on in addition to the in-tank pump. I am very concerned that the lack of pressure is going to kill my VP44 real fast and I am not looking to have another one replaced. If I were you (speaking from experience) I would insist that they put the original lift pump back on. Then you could relocate the pump yourself on the frame and have a convienent way of replacing pumps in the future. Just my 2 cents.
