my 02 is pretty stock and tame,k i want to wake it up in the rear future [guitar], so i was thinking about buying a smarty. But my trans is completely stock, so my question is what do i have to do to my trans to be able to run the smarty? is it really worth the money or shpuld i look in the DTR classifieds for a used EZ/XZT? which one will blow the most smoke timing box or fueling box?

ive told you time and time again your gonna need a vb and a tc. And unless youve got supporting mods the smarty is only good to 65 hp i beleive. The ez is the same hp gain and hald as cheap. And it aint all about blowing smoke.....grow up matthew. haha

???? Both EZ and Smarty provide timing and fueling. If your tranny is in good shape, it will hold up from either box.
Smarty is more expensive, but offers more options. I had an EZ before the Smarty's came out and the Smarty is my choice.

I think the smarty is a great product for a stock truck as well as a bombed truck. this is a item you can grow with. this enhances the throttle so much on the bottom end. my thoughts are your stock tranny with any enhancement will slowely start to slip and go south. just the smarty could get you there quicker. just think of it as . well HONEY I need a tranny upgrade because of the smarty. and I need a smarty so I can upgrade my tranny. the smarty has some nice side features that you can appreciate as well. the EZ is okay I think you will be able to get better MPG with the smarty dialed in right. good luck

Its kinda weird... mine works great if your in idle and romp on it or cruising and let off the gas, let the rpms drop to idle and then mash it but if your cruising in boost it sucks. Its still a fun almost free mod.

No the Smarty for a second gen is a completely different animal from the 3rd gen product.

They exist, I've got one. Use to run around using it like a childish idiot but have grown to realize the true side affect of it.. Nothing but ammo against us.

If I was you and had an '02 I would look around some of these sights and see who has done what with their similar vp-44 trucks and ask how their truck runs in all different applications and try to emulate the one you like the best for your situation and to the best of your financial capabilities. Shoot for a goal and work towards it, the whole smoke thing ( no offense) is really pretty stupid and childish ( except when you are blacking out a granola on a bike :D). Not to mention King Oobamy is already trying to get rid of trucks like ours so why give these tree hugging libs any more ammo to use on us. JM $0.02
