I'm looking for a 2500, 4x4, 5 speed, 12 v, and I plan on buying one round next Feb. I was wondering if it's louder to straight pipe it or is 4 inch with muffler going to be loud. I was looking at dpp for the exhuast. Does the scotty 2 sound really good. I was reading up on it and I will cut the 4.5 inch hole in the cowl so i can hear that turbo sing. I have a tymar intake on my 97 psd and that turbo just sings and sings with it on there. Is there a silencer ring on these models cause I thought i read it somewhere on here but cant remember. If i remove this does it do anything. I plan on getting gauges and a fuel plate too. What all can I buy before I get the truck so I can start bombing it as soon as I get it. My powerstroke is nice but just to expensive to bomb. I thought I could have some fun with this truck. I'm not really going to be towing anything except for bass boat and jet skis so nothing really heavy. Oh and my name is Mark and I'm from Texas.

Regarding a straight pipe, I have been running 4 and 5" straight pipes on my Cummins rigs for years, no mufflers. No noise tickets, either.

The turbo on the Dodge comes stock with a silencer ring, it does nothing but stop a bit of noise. No change in power with or without it.

I would not cut any holes in the firewall. That firewall is there to protect the driver from just what it is called - fire! It is just not something you want to fool around with. The other issue is that Cummins engines break exhaust manifolds if they are powered up and pushed hard, and you do not want exhaust in the cab. By the way, the manifold fix is easy, just get an ATS three piece to replace the Cummins OEM version before you push the power envelope.

The choice of what to buy before you get the truck is pretty narrow. Perhaps a repair manual for the year you are looking for would be the best initial investment. The performance parts needed will depend on the year, engine, purpose, and so forth.

I would recommend you visit TST's web site and take a look at their kits and get some idea of what you want in a truck before you buy. Then I would figure that any 12 valve purchased now days will have some of those parts already installed by the time you get to it. So, save your money and see what you land before you actually start buying parts.

4" with muffler is not loud. I'm using the Walker. If you get or build a 4" system, make sure the muffler doesn't have the "louvers" in the exhaust flow, very restrictive.

The 12V has a catlylitic convertor, so ck to see if you have to get 'smog' cks on diesels & if so, if they do an inspection. Dodge has a cat test pipe ;D so you can replace the cat if you want.

I'm using the Scotty II. It would be way too loud if I hadn't done all the cowl mods. One thing you might want to try 1st is remove the silencer ring & get a K&N RE-0880 & just let it ride on the fender. It was way too loud for me, might be just right for you, but will give you an idea of noise as compared to the Scotty II w/o cowl quieting mods.

IMO, get 3:54 gears. Mucho better on the mileage.

Yep, guages, then #11 plate on the 215 pump & you'll be close to max'ing out your clutch. Then clutch, bigger turbo, lower #'d plate.
