Want Mega Cab with 8' Bed? Ask Dr. Z!!!
Saw a post over at TDR where a guy asked Dr. Z about a Mega Cab with an 8' Bed. It was suggested that if we e-mail Dr. Z with enough request for a Mega Cab with an 8' Bed, Dodge my actually get off there butts and make one. Worth a shot...Give it a try....https://www.askdrz.com/

It would not be easy. You would have to stretch the frame 18 inches. If not the bed would look foolish. Also since you have mount the 5'r over the rear wheels you not benefit anything from the longer bed if the frame was not stretched

While we are emailing Dr. Z about the Megacab, we should complain about why the MC DRW only has a 10,500 lb GVWR while the QC has a 12,200 GVWR.....that is one thing I just don't get - a heavier curb weight, yet even LESS GVWR. I'm emailing the good Dr. about both of these MC gripes right now!!

That doesn't sound right... my '05 Quad Cab is exactly 4" longer in the cab than my '98 Quad Cab, and it's all in the rear seat. If the Mega is another 18" over that - I dunno? I didn't think the Mega was more than 12" longer.

When I lengthen the frame for the long bed, I'll put plow-spec springs on the front and airbags in the rear.

I gotta tell ya, the frame and springs on the MC DRW look identical to the QC DRW in size and strength.....I see no reason why there should be any difference in the GVWR - regardless of the obvious variance in curb weights. If they are using the same components that have the same capacities, then why are they not allowed to have the same gross (maximum) weight?

Why the heck would you LOWER the GVWR if all the hardware is the same - ESPECIALLY when the curb weight is even HIGHER?!?!
Gross weight is the total weight the vehicle is allowed to weigh with curb weight and total payload combined.
MY question is not of the payload capacity or curb weight, it is of gross weight. I recognize that an MC curb weight will be higher which will reduce payload....what I can't understand is why would the maximum allowable weight (GVWR) of the MC be so much lower?
