Installing Fog Lights...Has anyone installed the OEM foglight switch before???

OK, I had to get into my dash to repair the power outlet plug, and while I was in there, I had a bright idea that I'd locate the plug that connects to an OEM foglight switch... I want to fit some foglights on my truck and I "assumed" it would be a "Plug-N-Play" operation with the existing wiring.
I've got the '97 manual, and looking through the schematics it "looks" like the switch connector should be there... But for the life of me, I can't find it folded back anywhere! Please tell me it is in there somewhere, and they didn't leave the little connector and wiring out of the fat wiring harness that goes down to C133 (the huge connector on the inside at the firewall), that would be SO !
I think I have determined that the outside power connector & frame wiring for the foglight harness is there at the front crossmember. Also the wiring for relay 1 and 2 in the PDC appears to be there, but no wiring for the switch inside?

Has anyone tried putting in an OEM Foglight switch and re-utilised the existing relay circuitry for OEM or aftermarket lamps?
FYI, DC wants ~$43 for the silly switch alone!!!

Also, a question for you folks that DO have Factory fogs... What halogen lamps do the OEM fogs use?? The manual completely omits the lamp # for Fog Lights. It gives #'s for all the rest, but skips the foglights entirely.
DC's parts monkey and his computer couldn't tell me, nor could the well-stocked OhReally's store.

I have a 01 that I installed factory fog lights on in November 06. The connector came with the kit from mopar. There is not any connector folded back inside the dash. This kit came with everything, foglights, relay, bumper inserts, headlight/foglight switch, wiring, and mounting hardware. I could not believe the price was only 134.95+ tax. I have the instructions and parts list. I can not find my invoice for the life of me. So I don't have a part number. Intsall was about four hours including set up and clean up. I posted this letter on TDR last night for someone wanting to do this also. Let me know if you need more info.

If your truck was factory wired for fogs and but not installed at the factory, you will have a plug for the lights mounted under the center of the radiator on the chassis and the light switch will have the plug installed on it...it just doesn't work...you will have to change switches and install a relay. I read here that only the SLT models gave from the factory with all necessary wiring for any add-on options.

in 97 fog lights were not an option with the diesel trucks. I tried to order them on my 97 and they said they couldn't do it on a diesel. they were optional on 98 model year however.

I had the option when I ordered my truck.

it's possible, you know how dealers are .I ordered mine in late 96, I think it came in feb 97. I even tried to get them installed at the dealer and they said it was impossible. I still don't know why. I have them on my 98 and 2002.

I picked some up at Wally World that was $20 for the kit, 2 lights, wiring, and the rocker switch. They fit into the holes for the factory lights, so I don't think they look too bad. I'll have to get some pics later.

How bright are they, though? I've been thinking about doing the same thing as a temporary band-aid for the less than desireable factory headlights. At least until I go sport housings

Rpausewang: You have confirmed my fears. I dug through the dash very thoroughly and have concluded there is NO wiring inside the cab for the fog switch. My local DC exotic parts emporium wanted >$190 for the kit. Needless to say, I "thought" I could engineer hooking up some fogs using the existing wiring.. (wrong!)

Breakaway: Yes, I had already located that 3 terminal connector (C105) under the radiator area with the 2 LtBlue and one Blk wires. THat connects to the foglight "harness" that apparently comes in the kit which then gets attached to the backside of the bumper.
I'm pretty confident the wiring for the fog's IS present forward of the firewall, but surprisingly, not inside the cab. BTW, my truck is an SLT but has no wiring inside the dash for it.

For you guys that do have the OEM fogs, what halogen bulb is used in them???
The factory manual omits the bulb type used in the foglights from the listing of all the bulbs used in the truck. The DC parts monkey couldn't tell via his computer either. He was going to open up a "kit" to eyeball it, but they don't stock any.
The foglight ckt is supplied by a 15amp fuse so they can't be very powerful...

The Gulf Coast area has been hit with some seriously dense fog this season and my daily commute could benefit from some foglights, or RADAR !

Thanks for the info...

I haven't given up yet...
Did the wiring in the kit go into C133 (big one at the firewall) or was there another connector under the dash the kit's wiring plugged into??

BTW, On '97's the foglight switch inserts into a blanked hole next to the OverDrive Disable pushbutton and not a special headlight switch like later models.

If I can conquer the special connector and get the wires into C133, I think I'll have it whipped (I hope) .

I used the OEM switch for fogs on my '95. No special plug, just used female crimp-on spade connectors. I grabbed the power for the dimming indicator light off of the OD switch. Only other wires needed were ground, two positives (one for the on indicator light, the other for the switched +) and one switched + out. After searching for the underdash end of the wiring harness for a couple hours just ended up running one wire from the switch to a relay mounted on the battery holder. Supplied positive to the relay with a inline fused wire right to the battery. New wire to the lamps themselves.
I used 80 watt projector style lamps peaking out of the lower bumper skirt. I chose this style after walking though a parking lot and noticing that most of the low hanging fog lights were cracked. The projectors have a lens over an inch thick.
Set up works great.

Pardon all the Montana bugs

That looks good, I may have to go browse my local pep-boys now and see what I can find. If you didn't have factory fogs, where did you find the switch? Ebay seems to rarely have anything. Dealer? Junkyard?

Thanks

Say, I like that idea!...
I had an idea of using 50watt "can mounted" narrow beamwidth MR-50 style spotlamps with the protective glass cover on them. The problem with MR50 spots is the pattern is not broad in the horiz plane where you need it.

I have seen the same condition of fog lights too, and that fragility tempers my desire to pay very much for OEM plastic lamps.

Well, let's put it this way, they are MUCH briter than the factory headlights. I could easily turn them on alone and be as comfortable as the factory ones on bright. They have blue reflectors so they look like some of the more expensive lights, much whiter light than the headlights.

Dealer, I paid $28
What I like about my setup is it lights the dark space inbetween where the headlights hit the road and the truck.
