That one is a complete crap shoot.

I read somewhere on this site that the original VP44 had something like 39 revisions over time. I think a some of it would depend on what revision your pump has on it. (I don't think they would have made those revisions all just for fun,,,,if you know what I mean). My VP44 was replaced in 03, so I am hoping it had all the revisions.

I ran my lp down to zero pressure for a couple weeks a few months ago, before I replaced the lp, but I was also using lucas lubricant in every single tank since the rebuilt vp44 got installed in 03....Hoping to avoid a mechanical failure.

No-one on this site has yet said whether the bulk of the current VP44s that die are due to electronics.....or mechanical. If it is electronics,,,I doubt that no pressure is as bad a problem as they say....But I'm not about to use myself as a guinea pig to find out. If my pressure gets close to zero, I order a new LP and when it get's here I install it that night. So the most I have is a hundres miles or so on zero pressure.

I am a little worried it may get harder to buy the LP that is on the motor...I hear they are sticking it in the fuel tank nowadays. Not an easy place to replace it. I was thinking of buying an extra one just in case. The fuel tank is no place I want mine.
