vp 44 problem ?

This is the second pump that I have had the same problem with. If the truck sits for awhile it's hard starting. The original pump went out at 150000 now the truck has 180000. When the shop changed the pump I had them change the injector to the 275's. The truck also has comp box, 4"exhaust, pac brake, egt and boast gauge. I have a fuel pressure gauge and the lift pump is ok. Since the work was done my egt are hard to control but that may be another problem. Currently the problem start with hard starting in the morning and gets progressily worse. I can smell fuel under the hood but can't find any leaks and have had several people look also. There is no codes coming up. Last time the shop replaced the pump under warranty and it was ok for awhile This time it's out of warranty

I would start by putting an air line to the filler at the fuel tank with a rag to try to put a little pressure to push the fuel forward for a few minutes with the engine shut off. Then look to see if you have any leaks on the pressurized area of the fuel system.

If no leaks are found, I would check for over fueling. If you are over fueling, it will be hard to start and you would be able to smell the unburned fuel. This may also explain the exhaust temperature problems you are having.
