VP-44 health check

My truck now has 180,000 and some change on it. I recently installed a Westach FP gauge. The gauge sender is connected to the fuel pressure test port at the VP-44 with a Vulcan universal hose.

At idle after warmup I see 15psi. At WOT, also after warmup, it drops to just a little shy of 10psi and then an instant later bumps to 10 PSI, so you could just say an even 10, I guess, at WOT.

Is this acceptable? I regularly check for codes using the key click method, no fancy code reader or anything, and I don't see any.

Thanks for your response.

Ted

What lift pump are you running? If stock, that sounds good and healthy. My Airtex runs 20+ at idle, 15 at WOT.

However, VP44's have been known to die without warning at all. Evidenced by the Bluechip boxes in the garage at home. Buddys died with no warning at all. He pulled the GN to a house to pick up his skid steer. Loaded up and went to leave, engine wouldnt fire. FP gauge read normal psi.

Now its got a new Bluechip pump in it. At 180,000 I would say to be prepared to buy yourself a new pump soon.

Thanks blake2500. As far as I can tell the LP in the truck is stock. Silly question, but how do I tell. The LP is in the engine compartment, not remotely mounted, if that helps.

I hear what you're saying about 180k and no warning. I keep checking those codes!

I never had the check engine light on when I had the p0216 code. I check it with the key method every once in a while. If it's running good just drive it.

Sometimes its the very nature of this place too automatically put the blame on the inj pump when these trucks sneeze . Allot of the same symptoms of a dieing pump is whats called the apps for short or the accelarator pedal postion sensor. If you have a dead pedal problems start small like fuel filter then lift pump sudgest the air tex and then do the pedal sensor then if all has not curred the surging or the dead pedals last but not least if your not dead on the side of the road drop the change for the new injector pump. Its preatty common too that if your inj pump fails you might as well replace the lift pump while your at it too prevent it from eating your new pump.

I just purchased a 02 2500 24V CTD 3 weeks ago. The day after we left for a trip to pa/nj area for a week pulling a camper. Truck ran great, good fuel mileage 19 mpg and i was pretty happy camper.
Got home, let the truck sit for 2 days and went to start, she started and sputtered then shut down. After this, starter turning but not kicking over. Read some forum posts and hooked up a fp gauge to the test port. 0 psi, so i replaced fuel filter and purged according to some posts. Started up, 10psi, hesitated a little then ran good. Went to the store, filled up the truck and then she sat again. Would not turn over next time without purging the lines. Started thinking it was a bad ip as i saw a code 216 once in the display after she would not start along with a code 460.
So thinking i would need a ip i was pretty dissapointed. Until tonight when i moved the truck out of the garage after getting it started again by purging. I left it running a bit and saw diesel fuel on the ground under the ip. Guess what, it is coming out of the schrader valve. So hopefully thats all it is now since i think that this is where i was losing the fuel while sitting.
Any thoughts? Think i may be lucky??

code 0216 is mechanical failure to the IP 2 other codes are 1688 and 1689 1 is the computer failure on the IP 1688 and i dont remember if you go onto blue chips site they explain this in detail. sounds like it is going south. these pumps are know to just quit.
