Voltage regulator??

Voltage regulator??
I have a 92 Dodge ram 250 and the thing died on me the other day. First I lost overdrive, then the stereo, then the lights and heater. It stayed running till I got out of the throttle getting off the Highway, then it died. I just figured it was the altenator, so I replaced it, and come to find out the altenator is not self regulated, so now I read that the regulator is in the control module, but where in the world is that? Can someone please tell me???

have you checked the crank sensor? If that isnt picking up that the engine is running the truck wont charge and cruise control wont work. Found this in the "sticky" https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...04&postcount=3

ok, you should have the crank sensor then. Check the front of the motor for a wire going down by the damper from the top of the block, there should be a connector by the front valve cover. You could also try switching the asd realy with the a/c relay. the asd relay is the front and the a/c is the rear relay. If that doesnt help check the gap of the crank sensor between the sensor and the damper the gap should be .050

The crank sensor is usually not bad, it's usually a chafed wire or the sensor has come loose and the gap is too large.
Check the wires where they run down the front of the engine and along the cylinder head. The gap between the sensor and crank damper should be 0.050", check it with a brass feeler gauge. A little tight is better than loose.

Well, as long as we are talking about regulators, I went to autozone for mine, and they gave me a painted one. 91.0 and earlier regulators need to be grounded to the frame, so I scratched off the paint to ground it, and it still wouldn't work. Then, I went to advance and they gave me the good ole shiny one! Problem solved.
So, for you OGs (that is Original Gangsters), make sure the replacement they give is a bare metal casing and not a pretty painted one.
