I just bought a Volant CAI used. Anyone that has one of these intakes actually cut the hole in the cowl area? Does it really make a difference in EGT's while towing? Also, how is the noise level with a stock turbo? Thanks!

I had one in an 01', I ran it w/o the hole and then I did cut the cowl and it was very noisy with the turbo whine

I went back to the stock box as I couldn't change the oil filter w/o removing the Volant

Well, I went ahead and cut the hole and got the turbo pulling air from the cowl. Man, it really sings now! Above is a pic of my install. You can see the old Caterpillar boot I used at the top to stick through the cowl area. I went by a tractor-trailer repair shop and they had a couple of them laying around that had been damaged. I only needed about half of it so I just cut the damaged section off. And, if you look at the bottom closely you can see the factory air duct in the fender.
