Vibrations - Dodge's problem

After reading many and posting a few forums here on the vibration/drone. We have to remember that we are the customer. The dealer is the dealer, they can only do what Dodge lets them do. Which right now is to cover this up. Dodge knows what the cause is already. I have a feeling after talking to an engineer that resigned from Dodge. The fix that Dodge needs to do, they will not do because of federal regulations. If Dodge waits a certain period of time after model release they can them do the fix without any federal regulations. The dealer I'm working with now wont even order a diesel truck because of this problem. They dont want the headaches. I have been in business for myself for twenty years now and I know what hurts me the most is the lack of income, cash flow ( MONEY ). The only way to get this resolved any sooner is for as many people to file for the lemon law as possible. The more people that file the lemon law it will hit Dodge right were it hurts, the wallet. We can all post forums and complain to our dealers till the F*#@ing cows come home or we can do something that will get their attention ( lemon law ). I have never used the lemon law but I'm done going around in circles. I sent in my certified letter to Dodge last Friday letting them know I'm persueing the lemon law and either want my truck fixed or replaced or refund. Its time to move forward. I going to take my arguement to Dodge were it belongs and not the dealer.

I work with a guy that finally got his '04 2500 4x4 on the Interstate and found out about the 2100 rpm vibration. He asked me about it and I told him it was an on-going investigation into what, why and how come it ain't been fixed.

He asked me about my 2wd, QC,SB early '03 Cummins six speed and I told him that I have had one problem in the 10K and one year that I have owned it. A cut block heater plug upon delivery and broken radiator clamp............

I don't understand it, but it looks like there should be some logic as to why it is happening, what is causing it and why they haven't figured it out. It looks like it could be discovered by logical deduction by tracking of whose truck does and whose doesn't and finding the common vibrating denominator.

The largest cause of vibration I have ever encountered is driveline angles. I put a 3" lift under my Cherokee and it would shake you out of it until I put a 1" spacer under the crossmember.

Good luck guys, jim

Question is the vibe noticable the first time you drive these trucks? The reason I ask is I am looking at moving in to a new truck. My current truck has no vibe but a double hand full of other problems. If I test drive the truck at 70 mph will it show or is it something that shows up later? I drove a truck the other day to see how the auto works and I don't know what speed it was but I felt something like a wheel was out of balance. Is this the vibe? Just curious I don't want to get another problem.

I noticed the vibe the first time the truck was on the highway at about 70 to 75 mph. My truck has about 65000 miles on it now and I'm getting a vibe at 61 to 65 mph also. Not all the trucks have the vibe but most 2500 & 3500 short bed crewcabs do. Long beds seam to less affected. When I bought the truck I test drove two trucks at two other dealers, one on the highway and no vibe. And the other just around town. The dealer I got mine from did not even have a diesel on the lot. They dealer traded, the truck came in and we signed papers, never drove the truck and down the road I went.
I will never do that again without researching the vehicle and an all day test drive.

Mine had the vibe but the dealer I work with here did what ever it took to get it gone, We ended up replacing the front and rear driveshafts and most of the vibe was gone. So we took out the front on again and the vibe was completely gone. Ended up replacing the front shaft twice and Now I have no vibes... I have also drived a number of trucks on My dealers lot without and vibration problems...

Vibrations

I have now hired an attorney. I'm a little tired of Dodge not wanting to do anything to fix the problem. Maby a law suite will get some action. Anybody else with the vibrations might want to do the same. Then Dodge might get off their pompiss ***.

It seems this elusive vibration problem is limited to 4X4s. Has anyone ever heard of it happening on a 4X2?

My '03 long bed auto/4.10 4X2 vibrated at 68mph with the motor "off" in neutral bad enough to rattle the change in the ashtray. It was my fourth Dodge Cummins and was in my opinion flawless exept for that. With 44k miles on it and about 15%~ towing 10,040 lbs, the rear end sounded shot. A bad driveline vibration will do that. The tranny is probably not far behind. The tranny had some confusion issues but I didn't consider it a problem as it was rock solid towing even being a 47RE. Our local service writer, mechanic and PDI inspector all agreed it was a problem and their first inclination was driveline angles. Then after a chat with the service manager, it's normal and we can do nothing. I argued with them and at least got a drive shaft swap from a different truck. It help alot but not enough. Probably a little sideways alignment luck at the carrier bearing. It's so frustrating that it's got to be fixible yet nothing gets done. It's not motor. It's driveshaft or dirveshaft angles.
When I went to look at some '05s the salesman didn't pressure me at all to go with a more expensive Cummins again. He was more than willing to give me $26600 for my '03 and let me take the '05 silky smooth Hemi powered duplicate truck for $28600. Kinda like a buyback without the screaming and yelling. I'd like to have stayed with Cummins but I have to say I'm very happy with the smooth quiet ride with a nice throaty 3" exhaust from long dual down tubes through two cats into a 2-1 collector and what looks like the same big washtub sized muff the Cummins had. And it has plenty of power for towing our 5th wheel. My vibration is fixed. But it's not a Cummins...

Vibration?

Mine vibrated only once at over 80mph with 570 miles on it so I backed out of it after a couple of minutes. Then on the return trip I had to hit 90+ out in the middle of the desert in the middle of the night and held it.(NOT ADVISED) I've noticed no vibrations since. Only 3000 miles on my rig.

Thats what I was thinking, a class action suit would be the way to go with the large numbers of people having the problem. Not being a lawyer though, I don't know if it's possible.

This sure is one things that makes me shy of buying a new Dodge truck, need to buy something before end of April and was leaning towards Dodge myself.

Seems all makes are far from perfect, and makes me think twice about laying down around $45000 Canadian for a new diesel truck.

If I was sure the Duramax would last as long as a Cummins motor would buy a Chev/GMC right now, and pass on the Dodge as the lift pump and the vib issues both worry me alot.

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think any of the 05's have the vibration. I have yet to read about one having it, in any case. As for the lift pump, the new trucks don't use the problematic lift pump. That was an '03 and earlier problem, or maybe up to early '04. So, in reality, both of those problems are likely moot with the '05's. The vibration is easy enough to check for-take the truck up to about 75 mph. If it has the vibration, you'll feel it. If not, you won't.
