Question Vibration Damper

I have my vibration damper off and was wondering before I put it back on does it have to go a certain way or can I just put it on and put the bolts back in and torque them? I should have marked it before i took it off (Hindsight)

look closely at the crankshaft and inside the damper there should be slots for a keyway and that will alow you to put it on in only one way.

Unless something changed in the 12v block between the 1st and 2nd gen trucks, there shouldn't be a keyway for the balancer...I had mine off twice this last week and never looked twice at how I bolted it back on. Not saying this is right, but I don't think it matters what way you put it back on. Anybody got a service manual handy?

All i did was this..

to make sure that it went back on, the times that i have replaced it, is with soapstone (welders chalk) shade one of the screws, and draw a line on the damper... and then you can go ahead and put it back on that way it goes...

its what i did... and it worked..

It doesn't hurt to mark it before dissassembly. That is a good habbit to get into. But on the 12 valvers there are no timing marks to align or counter balance weights to time to the crank. It just bolts on. Good luck.
