In the next couple of months or so, I am looking to install an exhaust brake on my ride. So, to be somewhat informed later on, I called the local Dodge Dealer service department and asked them about the availability of the Jacobs Exhaust brake. I was told that they were not available at this time under any circumstances, that Jacobs had a problem with them and they were not told what the problem was and was not told when they would be available. "We were told that we can not talk about it". Hmmm, kinda strange, thinks I, but hey, they are in the know, right?

So, I called the local Cummins dealer. "Yup, they had a problem with them, but they are now available". So, I ask myself, who is not talking to who?

Guess where I am gonna go when I am ready to get my Jacobs Exhaust brake installed.

Yup, I saw that post and that is what promted me to make the call to the local Dodge dealer. I just wanted to see what they would say about putting in a Pacbrake exhaust brake vs a Jacobs exhaust brake. I WAS told that it probably wouldn't void most of the warranty, but he didn't say it wouldn't void all of the warranty, which made me suspect that if something did go wrong with my engine, they would say it was because of the Pacbrake exhaust brake. And that is what I want to avoid for now.

Oh well, I don't have the money yet, but as the time gets closer, I will check with them again and then maybe do a little price comparison.

One question, though, to those of you who installed your own exhaust brakes. Have any of you had any kind of problem with any warranty issues? I guess what I am asking is, has anyone been denied any kind of warranty work just because you installed your own exhaust brake.

The reason I ask that question is because when I bought the truck, I specifically asked "What can I put on the truck without voiding the warranty" and I was told, "anything that Dodge or Cummins sells and installs will not void the warranty". Of course, I don't have that in writing. But I do believe that if either of them sells something and installs it, it shouldn't void the warranty, because they sold it and installed it. Of course, I have been known to be wrong once or twice before.

I seem to remember seeing posts that say a couple of dealers sell and install aftermarket boxes. While those specific dealers might not void your engine warranty based on a box, the rest of the other dealers certainly won't hesitate to do so, even though a Dodge dealer installed it.

Remember, DC provides the warranty... not any specific dealers. Dealers can sell things that would void your warranty, too.
