I have been told that VE pumps can start leaking after doing some tweaking/adjusting/fiddling mainly due to age. How many have experienced this type of problems with their VE Pump and is it a big issue too fix?

The only Mods that I am planning to do right now are to put on a 16cm turbo housing and some pump tweaking/adjusting/fiddling. With that said, how much tweaking/adjusting/fiddling should I do. The goal right now is to get a little more responce out of the truck and maybe increased fuel mileage. Later on I plan on adding some new injectors and maybe a new turbo, that's the end of my wish list.

air filter, or do like i did and pull the air box off, compressor housing, turn your star wheel down some, rotate your fuel pin some, my pump started leaking after i turned my fuel screw in some. you can add a 3200 governor spring kit.

Save that thought and visit it again a year from now. I'll bet you stray from that list!

Mine started leaking on its own, about the same time the low sulphur fuel appeared. I didn't have the time/facilities to replace seals myself at the time so I had a local shop do it and check things out. Good time to install the 3200 spring but I didn't so I have to go in there again. With 130K on my injectors I replaced them after one crapped out and that gained me 2-4 mpgs.

The VE injection pump contains one gasket and o-rings and one seal in the front around the main shaft. These will compress and get hard with age and if you disturb an old o-ring it may leak.

You can replace a single o-ring or pull the pump and replace them all like I did. It isn't that big of a job unless you get dehydrated and have to go to intensive care.

Just mark the positions of all the screws and don't forget to back out the fuel screw completely before you put the top cover back on or you'll break the govenor levers assembly.

The only tweaking that I've heard of causing a leak is the 3200 RPM spring - and that's really just due to a worn out O-ring being disturbed.

I got the cover gasket and new O-ring from the local Bosch shop when I got the spring... for the $1 they cost, good insurance in my book!
