Van Aken Pump Controller (or Something Like That?)

a buddy of mine just bought a 2002 dodge CTD with a 47RE auto with about 64K on the clock. he brought it over today to show me and when i got to looking there was a box, (located in the same place as an EZ or COMP or something of that nature would be, you know on the black box on the left side of the truck) that said something about being a van aken pump controller. i was wondering if ya'll know anything about these and if you could give me some info on them? it's kinda cool cause it looks like a mod, but it stinks b/c him nor i installed it, so we know nothing about it. like where it wires in at or anything. i looked and it looks as if it's going to the VP44 but i wanna know what it is doing so i can tell him about it.

thanks ya'll

Is it under the hood or in the cab? If it is under the hood does it connect to the MAP sensor? The older Van Aakens do not do boost fooling. The newer ones have two flavors and connect either directly to the VP or to teh diagnostic port. The web page for Van Aaken is: www.vanaaken.com. With the boost fooling I think they are good for ~ 65hp and give most of their power down low. I have one and love it.

V-5 connects in the cab Smart Box "R" connects at to the loom the back of the injection pump. Both add about 67HP I believe.

the box is under the hood, and it sure does not connect to the MAP sensor b/c i just put an Edge EZ on my truck and i know where the MAP sensor is . it is ON the block, right? so i don't know what it's plugging in to. it looks like a big black plug along with a smaller plug with it.

i don't know if it helps and i'll check out the link posted too.

It's likely an older Van Aaken box without the boost fooler (no map sensor connection). You can take it off if you want, all the wires are there to put it back to stock. The older boxes are worth about 40 hp, the new ones are about 64 hp. "Pump controller" .......... I supose you could call it that, but it's just a chip like your EZ. I recall a member having an older box, maybe he will see this thread. Geico....

It is an older VA box. They work very well for small gain (about the same as an EZ) The newer ones do work better though and give a nier gain down low.
