I am currently running Amsoil HD 15w-40 oil. I am thinking of switching to Valvoline Premium Extreme Blue 5w-40 because of availability at local NAPA stores. What do you guys think of this oil. Let me know if im gonna be making a huge mistake. Thanks

I've been using it for a while now in my diesels. I used to use mobil 1 synthetic or rotella synthetic in most of them but the price was right on this stuff last oil change and I think it works fine.

I wouldn't, it's CJ-4 rated and the TBN is lower than the Amsoil.

I run it. I had an oil analysis done this fall and Blackstone recommended 8000 mile oil change intervals. I still do it at 5000 but with 85k on the clock, they said it looked great. There's a reason for that big "C" on the bottle

I read an article in the TDR in which some oil guru did an independant test on 20 oils, not knowing the brands that were in the test. The Valvoline Premium Blue 15w-40 was in the top 5-7 amongst the higher priced synthetics. I then switched to it from Amsoil. Price was also a factor for me.

I use the Castrol diesel 15w-40, stuff stays clean a long time.

Premium Blue Extreme 5-40 was on sale at my local Napa last month for $17.99/gallon.

Oh. John Deere plus 50 HDEO 15-40 is CI+4 and has all the good stuff in it, and is 14 bux/gallon. Good UOA's from CTD owners if you want to see for yourself at www.bobistheoilguy.com.

if you want clean oil, use non detergent..... oil gets black because the additives are doing their job

I thought I saw a thread here a while back and the general consensus what that the old and now harder to find ci oil lubes way better than the new cj oil but will clog the cat converter on the new trucks. I guess I need to find it again because I would rather replace a cat than rebuild the motor early. My question would be what happens when the cat gets clogged? To much back pressure and hurts the motor or just fail the smog test? Anyone?
