valves out
I am sure my valves must need adjusting, its been maybe 40,000 + miles.
Im wanting to do it myself biu in past attempts was never able to find TDC. The timing pin in the rear is usless IMO.
Question is how will out of adj valves effect an engine ?

If the valves are out, it'll affect the engines 'breathing' efficiency; basically your mpg's will go down.
You might also notice a loss of power, but for most of us the valves would have to be WAY out for that to happen.

you can do them individually, by the firing order, with covers off, turn crank to top dead centerwatching #1 intake valve close, continue to mark at inspection hole, mark damper with chalk approx. 120* lines being 1/3 of a turn, ans start adjusting both intake and exhaust at same time for each cylinder, when turning against compression, be patient to allow bleedoff for easier rotation of the crank, your marks dont have to be exact, the cams base lobe is about 220 degrees, leaving lots of room for adjustment location.
I always follow the sticky in the dodgeram.org or wherever...basically you turn the engine until they loosen up and check them and then when you run out of valves to check you turn the engine until more free up.
i just checked the valves in my truck. 91.5 with 235,000mi. i dont believe anyone has been in there in a long-long time, if ever. and much to my delight they were ALL right on the money! i had no trouble using the TDC pin. i turned the crank slowly and when i was "there" it dropped right in. i did spray it with blaster, and work it in and out a few times to limber it up first though since it hadnt been touched maybe ever.
