Use a valve spring compressor and when its all the way compressed tap the top of it with a hammer and it will pop them loose. Make sure the piston is on TDC so that the valve will not fall down inside.

If you pop the retainer with a hammer before compressing it will come apart easily. You can tap and feel it when the retainer loosens from the locks. Then you are ready to compress the spring.

Have a small magnet ready to capture the keepers as they love to get lost during removal and reinstallation.
