Valve adjustment question

I am adjusting my valves on my 2005 Dodge for the 1st time at 248,000 miles. When you are adjusting the valves on the cylinders, do you adjust according to the cylinder numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or by the firing order 1-5-3-6-2-4?

Also, when starting out with #1 cylinder, it says if both rocker levers are not loose, rotate crankshaft 360 degrees. I wiggled the intake rocker level and it's loose but the exhaust rocker level is tight. Am I correct to go ahead and rotate the crankshaft then adjust the valves?

I am trying to make sure I am clear about this. Please give input only if you have adjusted valves before. Thanks and Happy Easter Everyone!

Rotate the crank by using a 15mm socket on one of the dampener bolts from underneath the truck. It is a ton easier. The dampener should have a line on it with markings stating "TDC" then a line next to the TDC stamping. Once you find the TDC mark lighten up the line with a yellow or white paint stick marker, then adjust it to the 12:00 position. To be clear the 12:00 clock position is straight up 12 noon with the block not the fan pulley. If one of the #1 valves are tight then definitely rotate 360* and recheck. Also once you set the crank to 12:00 I would recommend marking the bottom side with a line, that way when you need to spin it 360 you have a secondary marker to reference. Then follow the directions you already have.

I thought I was correct on that. Thank you for verifying. The other thing is. Do I go based on the cylinder numbers to adjust the valves or the firing order? That is the part that confused me. Thanks!

Once you set the dampener to 12:00 and verify that #1 cyl rockers are loose then adjust the valves in this order.
Intake on cylinders 1-2-4 and exhaust on 1-3-5.

Spin the dampener 360# clockwise back to 12:00 then adjust,

Intake 3-5-6 and exhaust 2-4-6.

I believe the tolerance you want on the intakes are .010 and on the exhaust .020 on your 05. I set them so that I have friction on the feeler gauge. Reset torque on the jam nut to 18 ft#.

You can go in the firing order if you want too but there is no need for it.

The entire job takes around 1-1.5 hours, if its your first time it will be a little longer. Do yourself a favor and get feeler gauges with a 45* bend in them, it makes it a LOT easier.

Now it's clear to me. Thanks for the feedback. Have a good Easter!

Thanks Goran! I decided to pull the rocker arms and pushrods and inspect them since I use the truck for long haul. That diagram and info will also be a big help. I appreciate your time. Holler if you guys ever need anything.
