In my effort to get my HVAC and low parking/abs lights off I am evaluating the vac system. I got the vac pump re-seal kit, I'm just wondering if these pumps can get leaks in the pump itself. I'm thinking if the re-seal kit will gain me back some lost efficiency. Also, any hose recommendations? Should I use liquid teflon goo on the hose joints? Band clamps instead of spring clamps?

The reseal kit "Might" get you back an inch or so in vacuum, if the housing was not sealed well it could be loosing vacuum that way. But the vacuum pump is essentially a vain pump, so it has 4 vains that move outwards as the pump rotates, and seal against the cylinder wall. If the cylinder wall is badly damaged and the vains are not getting a good seal against the wall, then you could have problems generating adequate vacuum.

As for hoses...any vacuum/heater type hose should do, and regular band clamps, gear clamps, or even the original style corbin (spring) clamps will work fine to hold the hoses tight.

Ok so a leaky vac pump is more likely to ooze oil than suck air? Then its back to leak hunting down the lines. What about removing the big vac line from the pump and pressuring it 5psi with the truck off to listen for leaks?
