VA Inspection and Cat Removal

For all you fellow VA residents out there...

I know on a gas vehicle I can't make it through our annual inspections without a cat, but is the same true of diesels? I

'm thinking of getting an after market exhaust, but I don't want to get giged on my next inspections.

Thanks,

It just might depend on the inspector. Being a Va. cop, It's against the law to modify your exhaust from the original factory version but, it seems to me everyone does it ie: duel exhaust, rice burner mufflers etc, and it passes the inspection!!

If you are really concerned, you can get four inch catalytic converters.

Fishcop,

Are you saying it is against Virginia law or EPA regs to alter a vehicle's exhaust system. I do not see how a "cat back" would be against the law other than possible noise regulations.

It's against EPA noise regulations to alter the exhaust system from stock in all fifty states.
Seldom enforced though.

Many inspectors do not know that a diesel even uses a cat, especially since it varies depending on year of vehicle.

I would be interested in knowing where to get a bigger cat, for when I put larger exhaust on my truck.

Thanks,
Chris

I believe diesel emmission inspections will be in our very near future as more manufacturers start producing diesel powered cars.
Especially after the 2007 "Clean" diesel rules go into effect.

I think most people avoid using a cat on there nice new exhaust system is because they usually run over $1000.
