Send it in an have it upgraded, if that is possible? It would save you the price of a new unit. OR there is always the classifieds, then get a new one.

Well, now, I never said I was keeping it stock. I may have said it makes plenty of power stock and that I had no plans on BOMBing it heavily.

I think I did pretty good keeping mine CLOSE to stock for 10 months. Fine line between performance enhancements and power mods, eh?

You will probably lead the way for the 2007 guys and mods anyway, at least the SAFE and well thought out mods.

I know that eventually I will need a better fuel pump and clutch. I'm trying to wait since the truck is so new but knowing that I will have to do it in the future will usually just push me to do it now. You know how it is, you wait and wait and when you finally do it you ask yourself "Why didn't I do this a long time ago?".

I wonder if they Quad/Va stack will work better with a 2nd line off the CP3. That should help it from runnin the rail down. Maybe that and your turbo will be able to keep the EGTs down better on this truck.

I only had that issue on the 03 with both turned up on high and it happened even with the turbo on there. The stack is just an idea I'm toying with right now....

yes I remember that. Im wondering if the high EGTs were caused simply by the amount of fuel or by the atomization degrading from a drop int the rail pressure. Did you have a rail pressure guage on the old truck?

No. When I ran that stack rail guages weren't even available yet....

Hey Dodgezilla.

It was hard to wait the 10 months, but I wanted to get past the 10K mile point, have a couple oil changes and the analysis back from them, and be familiar with the stock truck first. I noticed that most who have had any kind of major problems or close encounter with warranty issues had them in their early mileage, before about 10K. So, I set 10K as my reference point to start considering what changes I wanted to make and also to have somewhat of a plan for mods through the process.

I really did not notice the mileage ticking away because I was just plain enjoying the new truck. I find it to be a pleasure to drive and can just get immersed in it going down the road. While I enjoy the wrenching side, I don't want to have to live to wrench, to then drive. Also, I have been reading all these websites and learning so much about diesels and their differences with regard to performance additions, I had to take a step back and really consider the larger picture. So, I am making a few mods, hopefully they will compliment one another, but I am like you in the part where I really do not want to BOMB to death.

I am watching the clutch manufacturing industry gear up for our trannys, with a close, intent eye, I plan on having a clutch ready on the garage shelf for when I need a new one someday. Since I am not out laying down rubber and putting great strain on it, I think the day will hopefully come later than earlier. But I do know that a clutch is always the inevitable as you wrack up the miles.

Same thing applies to the in-tank fuel pump. Since installing the rail pressure gauge I really have notice how the rail pressure can fluctuate in correlation to how I use the go-pedal. It is really all very interesting, like things function in concert with each other, and how so much of all this is very dependent on so many little things operating perfectly. Just switching on the Quad box to setting #1 makes the rail pressure jump close to 5K without getting on it hard. Position #2 makes it rise another 2 to 2-1/2K more. I have not used the #3 side of the switch, and frankly may never as the power gains are more than I really need.

I have also noticed that the EGT's rise some, but actually not that much, when running empty. They also drop very rapidly when you back off the fuel. I am guessing that when I start doing some loads and towing I will get a much better picture of how the Quad box is functioning and under what conditions I can do what. I have yet to load up the Smarty, that will be when I am a little more comfortable with the Quad unit. Then I plan to turn off the Quad and go through all the stuff learning about the truck with the Smarty like I am the Quad. I guess that is more of my patience and deliberation process, relative to why it took me 10 months to look at the addition of the performance parts.
