got a 99 dodge diesel a few weeks a go my block was seeping out water from the passer side of the block about 4 '' above the oil pan . my diesel man said to put some stop leak in i did and it stoped leaking but now last 2 or 3 weeks my water has been droping and i would fill it up and i filled it up bout a week a go and this mornign it over heated a gin it would go from 190 to 250 then hit red and i slow down and it drop back to bout 200 and heat was cold. stoped put bout gall of antifreez in the raidtior and it drove on home ok stayed about 190 and then heat was worm .

but i have had no water under the truck when i park . and i looked @ the water pump weep hole and did not see any wet ness there .

has any one ever had this prob or know where my water might be goin ?

i think you have a "53" block and the dreaded crack.

It's possible that when it ran low and overheated previously it may have warped or cracked the cyl. head, and now the coolant's entering the cylinders and being burnt.

Antifreeze has a higher boiling point than water, possibly it just evaporated.

well that info is good stuff bad for pple with 53 blocks tho but mine is still using water like i will add like 2 gal for evey 50 - 70 miles i can see a lil leak under it when i stop not much tho wouldent seam like it would leak that much so im still not shure where its going .

i know it does have a crack or a small one somthin there i can see where it has leaked can it leak into the block some how to ? its not intho my oil i know.

can the block be welded in the truck ?

and im out of luck on the new motor i have 180 K miles on the truck

Well, my friend, I'm sorry to say your symptoms are classic of a cracked 53. Usually, they won't leak at all when parked but the crack will separate under load and begin to leak.

And no, the crack is not weldable. Lock n Stitch is the only permanent way to repair the crack short of replacing the block.
