Using no clutch

Does anyone else ever shift without the clutch, I used to drive semi's like that so I tried it with my new nv5600, and it shifts great like that if you let the rpms drop about 400 before grabbing the next gear, and it will fall right in.It will probably be real smooth when it loosens up.

I have driven my truck like that, but I'm not perfect and I cant always time the shifts right, so then I grind gears. People around me driving probably thought I didnt know how to drive a stick. So after a few days I started using the clutch again. Much easier for me.

The 1st and 2nd gens were alot nicer to shift without a clutch. The new common rail seems to like to "hover" awhile till the rpms drop. On level ground there not to bad, on any incline you loose to much momentum waiting for the rpm to drop. The older ones (gassers also) Had a quicker drop with a mechanical set up. Alot of truck drivers use there jake to keep the momentum while upshifting.

These tranny's aren't meant to be shifted without using the clutch. It's hard on the syncros. There was a good discussion on this a while back with excellent discriptions.

Clutch? Is that what that extra pedal is down there for? I only use to get moving.

I only use the clutch for taking off and speed shifting..I think I will break something in the trans before the syncros wear out

It all depends on the mood I am in. Sometimes I clutch, other times, just mesh them up

These transmissions are not designed to shift like that, you'll break your synchros and wish you hadn't. I know, I tore up a good transmission trying to look cool. heard it snap when shifted after that 4th would grind even when I used the clutch. lost $1600 in that deal
