Ever have an aux tank installed on the truck just for the purpose of pleasure traveling in the country (never minding the fuel prices right now)?

One day I plan to save up money for another truck, my dream truck. I may plan to install a toolbox/aux tank combo like that Transfer Flow makes, take along a small RV travel trailer and travel the country. Sure would be nice to not have to worry about the DOT, logbooks and not have to worry about anything commercially.

May seem like a basic general question--has anyone ever done this?

I do it every day...for the last 10 years. I hate stopping for fuel.

ditto, i have a 50 gallon in bed tank. we just got back from a 5500 mile trip hauling our 35er and i had no problem with the DOT or any cop for that matter. heck, one cop pulled over to let me pass going 5 over, at the time i did not realize he was a cop until i was starting to pass him.

had 1 in my last 2 Dmax trucks (RDS 90 gallon tank/tool box combo) and am building one for the mega now. Just like CQ said, I HATE SHOPPING FOR FUEL!

have a 100 gallon in my 5th wheel hauler, not illegal as long as fed to the truck tank and not the motor, you can pick the lowest cost fuel stops on your trip with the set up

Same here. I had a 90g L shaped combo, but with my flat bed, I went to a 35g rectangle that fits up nicely under headache rack. Picts in my library.
Its nice being able to drive past those really high priced stations and pick where you want to stop.
No problems here. Gravity feed into truck tank, with a electric diverter valve from a chevy PU. Works great.

I was looking at a tank from Transfer Flow and they told me using biodiesel was a no go. Something about the tank corroding prematurely? So, don’t know what other options I have?

Corrosion with bio? That's the first I've ever heard of that. It sounds a little fishy to me.

if the rubber lines that go from the transfer tank to your main tank were not made for biodiesel then i could see some issues, but not with the tank itself.

I was curious and checked Transfer flows website and their warranty states that up to 5% biodiesel is ok. Over that and if might void your warranty on the tank. Sounds like your dealing with a Dodge dealer. Go figure.

No believe it, bio is very corrosive. Only vitron hoses and seals will stand up to 100% bio. Epoxy coated steel, poly and stainless are immune to bio. If you run a percentage mix you won't have problems. In fact 100% bio,will over TIME, corrode brass and aluminum. Major components of transfer tanks!

So, Transfer Flow states B5 on their website. I normally use a B20ish mix. Do you think their tank would hold up to that? Does anyone make a tank approved for higher levels of bio?
