Used Guages Question - Autometer
I've got a chance to get a used Pyro and Boost gauge with a-pillar mount for $175. They are about a year old and are Autometer Ultralite's. He's upgrading to a twin turbo setup and one of the gauges he needs Autometer doesn't make so he's upgrading all the guages. He says they come with everything I need to install them. I'm thinking I need to make sure I get the boost bolt and the pyro mounting flange. He says they work fine.
First, is this a good price on used guages? It looks like these new would be 250-300 for Autometer gauges and mounts.
Second, any concerns buying used gauges?
Third, guages are my first or second upgrade and I have been kicking ideas back and forth and really liking the Commander as I could monitor a few more things. But this setup will be about half the price of a Commander. Do I grab the deal or will I be better served saving the pennies a bit more for the Commander?

Of course, everything is subject to personal opinion and choice. I have Auto meter C2 gauges boost/EGT/tranny temp. and I spent $1k (!ouch) to have installed. (I didn't have the time to do it myself at the time) so I think that price isn't bad. The pyro is the expensive one too. I've got all 3 mounted above the rear view mirror in a pod. While the commander, (by reports here, i have no personal experience), seems to be a pretty good unit, it is my personal preference to read stuff "real time, real numbers". By that I mean some things, like boost for instance, is read from the ECM. If you are running a boost fooler, you won't get real boost readings. And, if you look at some trucks here, you can't get enough gauges!!

Actually the Commander takes all of its readings from the sensors themselves. The ECM is not involved at all as far as the Commander is concerned. I love the Commander in my truck, and at the price is very comparable to guages. Then try to get all the guages that the Commander is capable of and you are way over its price. Just my opinion. BTW call Lary at the DTR store and he will hook you up for a great price! Note the Call for best pricing !

That sounds like a good deal to me. A new pyro alone is like $175, boost $50, pillar pod $100.
I wouldnt worry. Just make sure you get all the parts associated with it. You can drill and tap the air horn for the boost gauge and the pyro you will have to drill and tap. Id say the most important part is make sure you get the sender for the pyro.

I bought some autometer guages off a buddy of mine (Pyro, Boost, and Tranny) for something like $100 - $150 and I had to buy the a piller and boost bolt seperate so I think you getting a great deal. I wouldnt worry about them being used, my buddy had had his for a year or two and I have been running them for 3 plus with out any problem.
