How to use timing pin on pump

what is the purpose of the slotted end of the timing pin?
Is the slot suppose to fit over something flat (edgeways)?

Should I insert the pin and rotate it until it slides over something flat ?

Thanks, Tom

I suspect you are looking for this: http://www.dieselcare.net/P7100_Inst...structions.pdf

This for the VE pump: http://gnarlodious.com/Vanagon/Bosch_Pump/-Rebuild.html

Same pump, different engine application, but the timing pin is the same.

I think he's looking at the other timing pin on the side of the pump.
This should explain it> http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/94...ack-stock.html
